تشارك السعودية دول العالم الاحتفاء باليوم العالمي لمكافحة التصحر والجفاف.
وأوضحت وزارة البيئة أن شعار هذا العام يسلط الضوء على «استعادة الأرض.. وفتح أبواب الفرص»؛ للعمل على زيادة الوعي حول جهود المحافظة على البيئة وحمايتها، وإعادة تأهيل الأراضي المتدهورة التي من شأنها أن توفر فرص عمل لملايين الأشخاص حول العالم، وتعزِّز الأمن الغذائي والمائي، وتسهم في تعزيز القدرة الاقتصادية.
وأكّدت أن المملكة تتميز بتنوعها الجغرافي والمناخي، والصحاري الشاسعة، والجبال، والسواحل، والسهول، والوديان، والمناطق الزراعية. وتُعد هذه البيئة موطناً لتنوع بيولوجي فريد يتكيف مع الظروف المناخية المختلفة، وحرصاً على الحفاظ عليها وحمايتها، أطلقت عدداً من المبادرات البيئية؛ أبرزها مبادرة السعودية الخضراء لزراعة 10 مليارات شجرة خلال العقود القادمة، ويجري العمل على تنفيذ 86 مبادرة وبرنامجاً تحت مظلّة «السعودية الخضراء» باستثمارات تتجاوز 705 مليارات ريال في مختلف مجالات الاقتصاد الأخضر.
وتهدف هذه المشاريع إلى تحقيق الأهداف الرئيسية للمبادرة، وهي: خفض الانبعاثات الكربونية، وتشجير المملكة، وحماية المناطق البرية والبحرية، بما يتماشى مع مستهدفات رؤية المملكة 2030، لبناء اقتصاد مستدام ومزدهر، والارتقاء بمستويات جودة الحياة.
وأبرز المنجزات التي تحققت هي إعادة تأهيل أكثر من 313 ألف هكتار حتى الآن من الأراضي المتدهورة على مستوى المملكة، وزراعة أكثر من 115 مليون شجرة في مختلف أنحاء المملكة، واستصلاح أكثر من 118 ألف هكتار من الأراضي، وحماية 18.1% من المناطق البرية و6.49% من المناطق البحرية، إضافةً إلى إعادة توطين أكثر من 8277 كائناً فطرياً مهدداً بالانقراض في المحميات الطبيعية، بما في ذلك المها العربي، وظبي الإدمي، والوعل، وذلك في إنجاز بارز تمهيداً للوصول إلى مستهدف المناطق المحمية إلى 30% من مساحة المملكة البرية والبحرية بحلول عام 2030، وفقاً للمعايير والاتفاقيات الدولية، وزراعة 10 مليارات شجرة خلال العقود القادمة واستصلاح أكثر من 74 مليون هكتار من الأراضي.
إطلاق مبادرة التوعية البيئية
وفي مجال التوعية، أشارت الوزارة إلى إطلاق مبادرة التوعية البيئية بهدف رفع مستوى الوعي البيئي، ونشر المعرفة بالقضايا البيئية، وترسيخ الشعور بالمسؤولية الفردية والجماعية لحماية البيئة، والحد من التلوث بمختلف أنواعه، والمحافظة على الموارد الطبيعية، وتحقيق متطلبات التنمية المستدامة، من خلال تعزيز الأدوار والمشاركة الفعالة من جميع فئات المجتمع، ومختلف القطاعات الحكومية والخاصة والقطاع غير الربحي.
وأفادت بأن المنظومة تعمل على عدد من المبادرات البيئية المهمة؛ منها مبادرة تقييم البيئات البحرية والساحلية وإعادة تأهيل البيئات المتضرر منها وإدارتها إدارة مستدامة، حيث تم إطلاق رحلة العقد التي تعد أول رحلة ومسح شامل لمناطق وبيئات لم يسبق دراستها في المياه السعودية في البحر الأحمر، وكان من أبرز اكتشافاتها رصد عدد من الثقوب الزرقاء، ورصد كتل حيوية ضخمة للأسماك على أعماق سحيقة، وضمن جهود تقييم حالة الموائل البحرية على طول الساحل السعودي. في البحر الأحمر تم تنفيذ عدد من المسوحات الميدانية لأكثر من 600 موقع للشعب المرجانية و200 موقع للحشائش البحرية و100 موقع لأشجار المناجروف.

Saudi Arabia shares with the world the celebration of the International Day to Combat Desertification and Drought.
The Ministry of Environment clarified that this year's theme highlights "Restoring the Land... and Opening Doors of Opportunity"; to work on raising awareness about efforts to preserve and protect the environment, and rehabilitate degraded lands that can provide job opportunities for millions of people around the world, enhance food and water security, and contribute to strengthening economic capacity.
It confirmed that the Kingdom is characterized by its geographical and climatic diversity, vast deserts, mountains, coastlines, plains, valleys, and agricultural areas. This environment is home to a unique biodiversity that adapts to various climatic conditions, and in order to preserve and protect it, several environmental initiatives have been launched; the most prominent of which is the Saudi Green Initiative to plant 10 billion trees over the coming decades, with 86 initiatives and programs being implemented under the umbrella of "Saudi Green" with investments exceeding 705 billion riyals in various fields of the green economy.
These projects aim to achieve the main objectives of the initiative, which are: reducing carbon emissions, afforestation of the Kingdom, and protecting terrestrial and marine areas, in line with the targets of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, to build a sustainable and prosperous economy, and elevate the quality of life.
Among the notable achievements so far is the rehabilitation of more than 313,000 hectares of degraded land across the Kingdom, planting over 115 million trees in various parts of the Kingdom, reclaiming more than 118,000 hectares of land, and protecting 18.1% of terrestrial areas and 6.49% of marine areas, in addition to the reintroduction of more than 8,277 endangered species in nature reserves, including the Arabian Oryx, the Arabian Sand Gazelle, and the Nubian ibex, marking a significant achievement in preparation to reach the target of protected areas to 30% of the Kingdom's terrestrial and marine area by 2030, according to international standards and agreements, and planting 10 billion trees over the coming decades and reclaiming more than 74 million hectares of land.
Launch of the Environmental Awareness Initiative
In the field of awareness, the ministry indicated the launch of the Environmental Awareness Initiative aimed at raising the level of environmental awareness, disseminating knowledge about environmental issues, and instilling a sense of individual and collective responsibility to protect the environment, reduce pollution of all kinds, conserve natural resources, and meet the requirements of sustainable development, by enhancing the roles and effective participation of all segments of society, and various governmental, private, and non-profit sectors.
It reported that the system is working on several important environmental initiatives; including the initiative to assess marine and coastal environments and rehabilitate affected environments and manage them sustainably, where the "Decade Journey" was launched, which is the first comprehensive survey of areas and environments that have not been studied before in Saudi waters in the Red Sea. Among its notable discoveries was the observation of several blue holes, and the detection of massive biomass of fish at great depths, as part of efforts to assess the condition of marine habitats along the Saudi coast. In the Red Sea, several field surveys were conducted for more than 600 coral reef sites, 200 seagrass sites, and 100 mangrove tree sites.
