سجّلت المملكة تقدماً لافتاً في مؤشرات البحث والتطوير والابتكار لعام 2024، بحسب ما كشفته مؤشرات البحث والتطوير والابتكار الصادرة عن هيئة تنمية البحث والتطوير والابتكار، والتي تهدف إلى تعزيز الشفافية وتوفير بيانات دقيقة لصنّاع القرار والمهتمين بمجالات الاقتصاد المعرفي.
وبحسب المؤشرات، بلغ الإنفاق المحلي على البحث والتطوير 22.6 مليار ريال سعودي خلال عام 2023، مسجلاً نمواً بنسبة 21% مقارنة بالعام السابق، وهو ما يمثل 0.56% من الناتج المحلي الإجمالي للمملكة، في مؤشر واضح على اتساع نطاق الاستثمار في اقتصاد المعرفة.
كما رصدت المؤشرات نمواً بنسبة 48% في عدد الباحثين السعوديين بدوام كامل مقارنة بعام 2021، ليصل العدد إلى أكثر من 36.8 ألف باحث، ما يعكس فعالية الجهود الحكومية في تطوير رأس المال البشري وتعزيز بيئة البحث العلمي.
وفي جانب الابتكار، شهدت المملكة زيادة بنسبة 60% في عدد براءات الاختراع المُسجّلة خلال عام واحد، وهو ما يعكس نمواً ملحوظاً في الحماية الفكرية والقدرة على تحويل الأفكار إلى منتجات قابلة للتطبيق.
وعلى صعيد التصنيف العالمي، قفزت المملكة إلى المركز الخامس عالمياً في مؤشر سياسات وثقافة ريادة الأعمال، بعدما كانت في المركز الحادي عشر، كما حصدت المركز 47 من أصل 133 دولة في مؤشر الابتكار العالمي، والمركز 32 في مؤشر الملكية الفكرية.
وأكدت هيئة تنمية البحث والتطوير والابتكار أن هذه النتائج تُعد امتداداً لتكامل الجهود بين القطاعات الحكومية والخاصة، ونتيجة مباشرة لتفعيل الركائز الإستراتيجية الخمس الداعمة للابتكار، وهي: تمكين الروّاد، التمويل، البيئة التنظيمية، الجسور المعرفية، والجهات المُمكّنة.
يُشار إلى أن هذه المؤشرات تأتي ضمن إصدار دوري يهدف إلى تعزيز الوعي المجتمعي بالتطورات في مجال البحث والابتكار، وتحقيق الشفافية بما ينسجم مع مستهدفات رؤية السعودية 2030 في بناء اقتصاد معرفي تنافسي ومستدام.

The Kingdom has made remarkable progress in research, development, and innovation indicators for 2024, according to the research, development, and innovation indicators released by the Authority for the Development of Research, Development, and Innovation, which aims to enhance transparency and provide accurate data for decision-makers and those interested in knowledge economy sectors.
According to the indicators, local spending on research and development reached 22.6 billion Saudi riyals during 2023, marking a growth of 21% compared to the previous year, which represents 0.56% of the Kingdom's gross domestic product, a clear indication of the expanding investment in the knowledge economy.
The indicators also recorded a growth of 48% in the number of full-time Saudi researchers compared to 2021, bringing the total to over 36.8 thousand researchers, reflecting the effectiveness of government efforts in developing human capital and enhancing the scientific research environment.
In terms of innovation, the Kingdom witnessed a 60% increase in the number of registered patents within one year, reflecting significant growth in intellectual property protection and the ability to transform ideas into applicable products.
On the global ranking front, the Kingdom jumped to fifth place worldwide in the Entrepreneurship Policies and Culture Index, up from eleventh place, and ranked 47th out of 133 countries in the Global Innovation Index, as well as 32nd in the Intellectual Property Index.
The Authority for the Development of Research, Development, and Innovation confirmed that these results are an extension of the integration of efforts between the public and private sectors and a direct result of activating the five strategic pillars supporting innovation, which are: empowering pioneers, funding, regulatory environment, knowledge bridges, and enabling entities.
It is noteworthy that these indicators come as part of a periodic release aimed at enhancing community awareness of developments in the field of research and innovation, and achieving transparency in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 in building a competitive and sustainable knowledge economy.
