The Saudi Health Insurance Council has alerted mothers and fathers that the mandatory insurance document includes infant formula needed for medical reasons up to the age of 24 months, according to the approved cases and regulations, provided it is prescribed by the treating physician.
According to the council, the cases covered include metabolic diseases, absorption issues, and metabolic disorders, as well as premature infants, those with growth deficiencies, low birth weight, and conditions identified in early screening for newborns to reduce disabilities, in addition to cases of milk or sugar allergies.
To submit a request for coverage of medical infant formula through the insurance document, insurance companies follow a specific mechanism based on prior medical approvals and medical examinations. The treating physician examines the child and accurately diagnoses the medical condition, then issues a report and prescription along with a detailed report outlining the medical condition, which is accompanied by a medical prescription specifying the type of medical formula and the required quantity.
