The second day of the Dhofar International Festival for Theatre, which opened the day before yesterday in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate, saw the competitions of the "Major Performances" and "Elite Performances" categories at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment. The audience witnessed the presentation of two theatrical performances that offered different artistic experiences.
The performance "Romeo and Juliet" (Spain - Elite Performances category): presented a contemporary Andalusian vision of Shakespeare's text, relying on the integration of flamenco and intense movement expression with the rhythms of Spanish guitar, alongside an abstract scenography based on wooden platforms and contrasting lighting.
The performance "Metwally and Shafika" (Egypt - Major Performances category): produced by the "Al-Talia" Theatre and directed by Mohamed Mustafa. It addresses the folk epic with a symbolic directorial vision that turns the walls of the house into a tool for condemning and punishing "Metwally." It is worth mentioning that the performance previously won several awards at the Egyptian National Theatre Festival, including: Best Performance, Best Director, and Best Set Design.
