The cities with hot climates topped the list of the Saudi cities with the highest spending during the peak of the tourist season, according to a report and data from the Saudi Central Bank "SAMA," which confirmed that the cities with hot climates had the highest spending during the peak of the tourist season, followed by the cities with moderate summer weather, indicating the continued strength of consumer activity in major cities despite rising temperatures.
According to data from point-of-sale transactions for the past week, Riyadh ranked first in terms of spending value, followed by Jeddah, then Mecca, Medina, and Dammam. Taif ranked sixth, followed by Khobar, then Abha, and finally Al-Baha.
These results highlight the continued intensity of commercial activity in major cities such as Riyadh, Jeddah, Mecca, Medina, and Dammam, despite rising temperatures, compared to mountainous cities with moderate climates that become tourist hotspots during the summer and attract vacationers.
SAMA's data illustrates the volume of spending through point-of-sale transactions across multiple sectors, including restaurants and cafes, food and beverages, clothing, transportation, hotels, entertainment, and more.
Weather indicators also recorded clear temperature differences between cities; Riyadh reached 39 degrees, Medina 37, Dammam 36, Jeddah 35, and Mecca 34 degrees. Meanwhile, the temperatures were more moderate in the tourist mountainous cities, with Taif recording 28 degrees, Al-Baha 25, and Abha 22 degrees, showing a difference of up to 17 degrees between Riyadh and Abha.
These indicators coincide with the summer season, which witnesses active domestic tourism, as some vacationers head to moderate areas, while major cities retain the largest share of spending due to their dense populations and extensive economic activity.
