يحافظ رخام الحرم المكي في كل الفصول والأزمنة على درجة حرارته، فلا تؤثر فيه أشعة الشمس ولا درجات الحرارة المرتفعة.
ما أن يضع الحاج قدميه في صحن الحرم حتى يتنبه للبلاط البارد الذي لا تؤثر فيه أشعة الشمس الحارقة في فصل الصيف.. فما السر في ذلك؟ هو نتيجة تصميم دقيق ومواد فريدة تُستخدم في المسجد الحرام، إذ كشفت الهيئة العامة للعناية بشؤون المسجد الحرام والمسجد النبوي أن ذلك نتيجة تصميم دقيق ومواد فريدة؛ ومن بين هذه المواد، يبرز رخام (تاسوس) الذي يتم استيراده خصيصاً من جزيرة تاسوس في اليونان، ليضفي على المكان روعة وراحة خاصة للمصلين والطائفين.
ويتميز رخام تاسوس بخصائص فريدة تجعله يحتفظ بالبرودة حتى في أشد أيام الصيف حرارة، ويصل سمك الرخام المستخدم في الحرمين الشريفين إلى خمسة سنتيمترات، وقادر على امتصاص الرطوبة عبر مساماته الدقيقة في الليل، ثم يفرج عنها في النهار ما يساعد في الحفاظ على برودة الأرضيات.
ويمتلك الرخام قدرة على عكس الضوء والحرارة، وهي خصائص لا تتوفر في أي نوع آخر من الرخام. بالإضافة إلى ذلك تم قص الرخام باتجاه القبلة المشرفة، للتسهيل على المصلين معرفة اتجاه القبلة.

Thassos marble is characterized by unique properties that allow it to retain its coolness even on the hottest summer days. The thickness of the marble used in the two holy mosques reaches five centimeters, and it is capable of absorbing moisture through its fine pores at night, then releasing it during the day, which helps maintain the coolness of the floors.
The marble has the ability to reflect light and heat, properties that are not found in any other type of marble. Additionally, the marble has been cut in the direction of the Qibla to make it easier for worshippers to know the direction of prayer.
