The United Nations General Assembly meetings kicked off today (Tuesday) in New York with the participation of leaders from several countries, at a time when the world is witnessing ongoing crises and conflicts, particularly the war in Ukraine, the continued Israeli crimes in Palestine and Lebanon, and the war in Iran and Yemen.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated in his opening speech: "Civilians have been targeted during wars, human rights have been violated, and hunger has been used as a weapon," explaining that military force alone cannot guarantee security, nor can economic power alone ensure stability.

Guterres warned of settler violence, saying: "The violence, displacement, and settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank undermine the peace process and raise the specter of ethnic cleansing," describing what happened to the Palestinians in Gaza following the events of October 7 as "widespread killing and destruction."

The UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on world leaders to protect maritime corridors and de-escalate tensions, indicating that "the world is undergoing significant political and security upheavals and needs a strong United Nations."

He clarified that the world is moving towards "multipolarity," warning of the risks of the development of artificial intelligence "without control."

Regarding Sudan, the UN Secretary-General confirmed that what is happening is a war for power fueled by external parties that has turned into a war against civilians, explaining that millions have been displaced in Sudan, hunger is spreading, and drones are targeting hospitals and homes.
