أنفقت اليابان نحو 15.4 تريليون ين (96.5 مليار دولار) لدعم عملتها المحلية خلال الفترة من 30 يوليو إلى 26 أغسطس، في أكبر تدخل من نوعه في سوق الصرف خلال شهر واحد، وفقاً لبيانات وزارة المالية اليابانية الصادرة اليوم (الجمعة).
وتدخل بنك اليابان في سوق الصرف لشراء الين يومي 30 و31 يوليو، في تحرك نادر جرى بالتنسيق مع الولايات المتحدة، بعدما تراجعت العملة اليابانية إلى أضعف مستوياتها في نحو 40 عاماً، مقتربة من مستوى 164 يناً مقابل الدولار.
ويعكس حجم الإنفاق تمسك طوكيو بوقف تراجع الين، في ظل مخاوف من تداعيات ضعف العملة على الشركات اليابانية، مع ارتفاع تكاليف الواردات، خصوصاً الطاقة، التي تعتمد اليابان على استيرادها لتلبية جانب كبير من حاجاتها.
ويأتي التدخل الياباني في وقت تواجه فيه السلطات ضغوطاً متزايدة للحد من تقلبات سوق الصرف، والحيلولة دون استمرار انخفاض الين بما يرفع كلفة الواردات ويضغط على الاقتصاد المحلي.
Japan spent approximately 15.4 trillion yen (96.5 billion dollars) to support its local currency from July 30 to August 26, in the largest intervention of its kind in the foreign exchange market within a month, according to data released today (Friday) by the Japanese Ministry of Finance.
The Bank of Japan intervened in the foreign exchange market to buy yen on July 30 and 31, in a rare move coordinated with the United States, after the Japanese currency fell to its weakest level in nearly 40 years, approaching 164 yen against the dollar.
The scale of the spending reflects Tokyo's commitment to halt the decline of the yen, amid concerns about the implications of a weak currency on Japanese companies, with rising import costs, especially for energy, which Japan relies on importing to meet a large part of its needs.
The Japanese intervention comes at a time when authorities are facing increasing pressure to curb fluctuations in the foreign exchange market and prevent the continued decline of the yen, which raises import costs and puts pressure on the domestic economy.
