The price of Bitcoin rose above $80,000 today, reaching its highest level in over three months, supported by a weaker dollar following measures taken by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Pessen to calm the bond market, which has revitalized the cryptocurrency sector.
Clearer Definitions
Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump urged Congress to pass a bill that would provide clearer definitions for the growing cryptocurrency sector. Since then, Bitcoin has surged 16%, making it the largest cryptocurrency in the world. In the latest Asian trading, Bitcoin was recorded at $80,323.24 after earlier touching $81,237.94, its highest level since mid-May. The currency has jumped about 28% since the beginning of August, heading towards its largest monthly gains since November 2024.
The Largest Share
The U.S. Treasury Department has supported the cryptocurrency market significantly after revealing last week plans to buy back more long-term bonds to limit long-term yield gains, with the dollar bearing the brunt of investors' concerns. Analyst Tony Sicamore from a specialized company in the sector stated: “The (Treasury Department's announcement) has driven buyers to strongly shift towards physical and digital assets as fears of currency devaluation return, and any sustained rise above this level will open the door for the currency to move towards $95,000 and $100,000.”
