أعلن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب أمس الأول (الجمعة) إنهاء المفاوضات التجارية مع كندا «فوراً»، احتجاجاً على ما وصفها بـ«الضريبة الفاضحة» التي فرضتها أوتاوا على الخدمات الرقمية.
وقال في منشور على منصته «تروث سوشيال»: «بناء على هذه الضريبة الفاضحة، فإننا ننهي جميع المناقشات بشأن التجارة مع كندا، بأثر فوري»، مشيراً إلى أن كندا ستُبلّغ بمعدل الرسوم الجمركية الذي سيفرض عليها خلال أسبوع.
وسبق أن اعترضت واشنطن على ضريبة الخدمات الرقمية الكندية، وطلبت إجراء محادثات لتسوية النزاع بشأن هذه المسألة العام الماضي، ورغم أن ضريبة الخدمات الرقمية في كندا ليست جديدة، إذ تم إقرارها العام الماضي، إلا أن مقدمي الخدمات الأمريكيين «ملزمون بدفع مليارات الدولارات في كندا» بحلول 30 يونيو، بحسب ما أشارت إليه رابطة صناعة الحاسوب والاتصالات.

President Donald Trump announced the immediate termination of trade negotiations with Canada "effective immediately" in protest of what he described as the "outrageous tax" imposed by Ottawa on digital services.
He stated in a post on his platform "Truth Social": "Based on this outrageous tax, we are ending all discussions regarding trade with Canada, effective immediately," noting that Canada will be informed of the tariff rate that will be imposed on it within a week.
Washington had previously objected to Canada's digital services tax and requested talks to resolve the dispute over this issue last year. Although the digital services tax in Canada is not new, having been enacted last year, American service providers are "obligated to pay billions of dollars in Canada" by June 30, according to the Computer and Communications Industry Association.
