The Canadian dollar recorded its largest daily decline in nine months against its American counterpart, falling by 0.8% to 1.4128 Canadian dollars, under pressure from weak economic data and a drop in oil prices.
Canadian labor market data showed a loss of 4,700 jobs in October, with the unemployment rate rising to 6.7%, the highest level in six months, which reduced market expectations regarding a rate hike by the Bank of Canada in December.
The losses of the Canadian currency increased with the decline in oil prices, one of the country's main exports, against the backdrop of a rising US dollar supported by strong employment data that exceeded expectations.
On a weekly basis, the Canadian dollar fell by 1.1%, ending a three-week streak of gains.
