تراجعت صادرات كوريا الجنوبية من الصلب إلى الولايات المتحدة بنسبة 26% في يوليو الماضي، مقارنة بالعام السابق، وفق جمعية التجارة الدولية الكورية «كيتا».
وبحسب بيانات «كيتا»، انخفضت قيمة شحنات الصلب الكورية الجنوبية إلى الولايات المتحدة إلى 283 مليون دولار الشهر الماضي مقابل 382 مليون دولار في الفترة نفسها من العام السابق.
وسجلت القيمة أدنى مستوى لها في أربع سنوات وأربعة أشهر، منذ مارس 2021، فيما انخفضت صادرات يوليو بنسبة 24% على أساس سنوي لتصل إلى 194 ألف طن، وهو أدنى مستوى منذ يناير 2023.
وكان الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، أعلن أخيراً، أن الولايات المتحدة ستفرض رسوما جمركية 15% على الواردات من كوريا الجنوبية في إطار اتفاق يخفف، في الوقت الراهن، التوتر مع حليف آسيوي رئيسي وأحد أكبر عشرة شركاء تجاريين لبلاده.
وجاء الاتفاق، الذي تم الإعلان عنه بعد وقت قصير من لقاء ترمب بمسؤولين كوريين جنوبيين في البيت الأبيض، في خضم سلسلة من التصريحات الخاصة بالسياسات التجارية قبل موعد نهائي حدده ترمب.
وحدد ترمب الأول من أغسطس الجاري موعدا لفرض رسوم جمركية أعلى على الواردات الأمريكية من مجموعة من الدول. وكانت الواردات من كوريا الجنوبية، وهي قوة تصديرية رائدة لرقائق الكمبيوتر والسيارات والصلب، ستخضع لرسوم جمركية 25%.
وكتب ترمب على تروث سوشيال: «يسرني أن أعلن أن الولايات المتحدة قد توصلت لاتفاقية تجارية شاملة وكاملة مع جمهورية كوريا».
وذكر الرئيس الأمريكي أن كوريا الجنوبية وافقت على استثمار 350 مليار دولار في الولايات المتحدة في مشاريع يختارها ترمب، وشراء ما قيمته 100 مليار دولار من الغاز الطبيعي المسال ومنتجات طاقة أخرى.
وبعد إعلان ترمب، أعلن الرئيس الكوري الجنوبي لي جيه-ميونغ أن اتفاقية الرسوم الجمركية التي أبرمتها بلاده مع الولايات المتحدة ستضع كوريا الجنوبية على قدم المساواة أو حتى أفضل مقارنة بغيرها من الدول.

South Korea's steel exports to the United States fell by 26% in July compared to the previous year, according to the Korea International Trade Association (KITA).
According to KITA data, the value of South Korean steel shipments to the United States dropped to $283 million last month, down from $382 million during the same period last year.
The value recorded its lowest level in four years and four months, since March 2021, while July's exports declined by 24% year-on-year to reach 194,000 tons, the lowest level since January 2023.
U.S. President Donald Trump recently announced that the United States will impose a 15% tariff on imports from South Korea as part of an agreement that currently eases tensions with a key Asian ally and one of his country's top ten trading partners.
The agreement, announced shortly after Trump's meeting with South Korean officials at the White House, came amid a series of statements regarding trade policies ahead of a deadline set by Trump.
Trump set August 1 of this year as the date for imposing higher tariffs on U.S. imports from a range of countries. Imports from South Korea, a leading exporting power of computer chips, cars, and steel, would be subject to a 25% tariff.
Trump wrote on Truth Social: "I am pleased to announce that the United States has reached a comprehensive and complete trade agreement with the Republic of Korea."
The U.S. President mentioned that South Korea agreed to invest $350 billion in the United States in projects chosen by Trump, and to purchase $100 billion worth of liquefied natural gas and other energy products.
Following Trump's announcement, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol stated that the tariff agreement his country reached with the United States would put South Korea on equal footing or even better compared to other countries.
