A government document has revealed that the authorities responsible for overseeing the development of artificial intelligence in Indonesia are proposing the establishment of an "AI Sovereign Fund" to finance the archipelago's ambitions to become a regional hub for this rapidly growing technology. This was reported by the website "Al Arabiya.net".

The largest economy in Southeast Asia will issue its first national roadmap on artificial intelligence, in an effort to attract foreign investment as part of its endeavors to join the global AI and semiconductor race.

The race has seen neighboring Malaysia secure billions of dollars from global tech companies seeking to build vital infrastructure to meet the growing demand for cloud computing and AI services.

The Indonesian strategy, which was released in the form of a 179-page white paper, recommends several measures, including the establishment of an AI sovereign fund to be primarily managed by the country's new sovereign wealth fund (Danantara Indonesia), which oversees assets exceeding $900 billion.

The paper did not specify the required amount, but it estimated the timeline for establishing the fund between 2027 and 2029.

The roadmap also detailed the challenges facing Indonesia, including a lack of expertise, low research funding, and more.

Companies including "NVIDIA" and "Microsoft" have expressed interest in Indonesia's efforts regarding artificial intelligence.
