أعلن مسؤولون بالاتحاد الأوروبي أن مفاوضين من الاتحاد الأوروبي وبريطانيا توصلوا إلى اتفاق مبدئي في قطاعات من بينها الثروة السمكية، والدفاع والأمن، وذلك قبيل انعقاد قمة بين الجانبين اليوم (الاثنين)، ما يمهد الطريق أمام الشركات البريطانية للمشاركة في عقود كبيرة بقطاع الدفاع في التكتل.
وأكد المسؤولون أن ممثلين لحكومات دول الاتحاد الأوروبي في بروكسل تلقوا نص تفاهم مشترك بين بريطانيا والتكتل، وأن الوثيقة يجري اعتمادها من جميع حكومات الدول الأعضاء التي يبلغ عددها 27 دولة.
وتعمل بريطانيا والاتحاد الأوروبي على اتفاق بشأن قواعد تجارة السلع الغذائية، وتعهدا بإزالة جزء كبير من معوقات تجارة السلع الغذائية.
ويعزز الاتفاق التعاون في مكافحة الهجرة غير الشرعية، ويبحث تعزيز التعاون في سوق الكربون، ويضمن استمرار وصول إيرلندا الشمالية لسوقي بريطانيا والاتحاد الأوروبي.
وينص الاتفاق على دراسة توظيف البوابات الإلكترونية للجوازات بالشكل الأمثل.
وذكرت بريطانيا في وقت سابق أنها ستبرم اتفاقية تجارية مع الاتحاد الأوروبي، اليوم ليكون من أبرز وأهم الاتفاقيات لها مع التكتل منذ البريكست.
ويستضيف رئيس الوزراء البريطاني كيم ستارمر رئيسة المفوضية الأوروبية أورسولا فون دير لايين وقادة أوروبيين آخرين في لندن، اليوم، لعقد قمةٍ تهدف إلى إعادة ضبط العلاقات المتوترة بينهما.
وتوصل مفاوضو الاتحاد الأوروبي وبريطانيا إلى اتفاق مبدئي بشأن الدفاع والأمن، ومصايد الأسماك، قبيل قمة الاتحاد الأوروبي والمملكة المتحدة، ما يمهد الطريق أمام الشركات البريطانية للمشاركة في عقود دفاعية كبيرة مع الاتحاد الأوروبي، وفقا لمسؤولين في الاتحاد الأوروبي.
وكانت بريطانيا قد انسحبت من الاتحاد الأوروبي في عام 2020، لكن ستارمر يسعى إلى تعزيز العلاقات مع أكبر شريك تجاري للبلاد، وذلك منذ فوز حزب العمال، المنتمي إلى تيار يسار الوسط، في الانتخابات العامة العام الماضي.
وتشير استطلاعات الرأي إلى أن دعم البريطانيين لخروج بلادهم من الاتحاد الأوروبي قد تراجع بشكل ملحوظ، في ظل تدهور الأوضاع الاقتصادية في السنوات الأخيرة، ولا سيما في مجال التجارة الدولية التي شكّلت نقطة ضعف واضحة.

European Union officials announced that negotiators from the EU and Britain have reached a preliminary agreement in sectors including fisheries, defense, and security, just ahead of a summit between the two sides today (Monday), paving the way for British companies to participate in large defense contracts within the bloc.
Officials confirmed that representatives of EU member states' governments in Brussels received the text of a joint understanding between Britain and the bloc, and that the document is being approved by all 27 member state governments.
Britain and the EU are working on an agreement regarding the rules for food goods trade, and they have committed to removing a significant portion of the barriers to food goods trade.
The agreement enhances cooperation in combating illegal immigration, explores strengthening collaboration in the carbon market, and ensures continued access for Northern Ireland to both the British and EU markets.
The agreement stipulates the optimal use of electronic passport gates.
Britain previously stated that it would sign a trade agreement with the EU today, which would be one of its most significant agreements with the bloc since Brexit.
