The competent court postponed today (Thursday) the hearing of the civil lawsuit filed against the Egyptian artist Amr Diab, which demands that he be obligated to pay a compensation of one million dollars to the young man Saad Osama following the incident of slapping him during a wedding, to the session on November 12, in order to officially notify the artist of the lawsuit.
The postponement decision comes after the Court of Cassation upheld the ruling issued in the criminal aspect of the case, leaving the civil path open for the court to consider the compensation request submitted by the young man.
A lawsuit demanding one million dollars
The lawsuit filed before the primary court demands that Amr Diab pay one million dollars as material and moral compensation to Saad Osama, for the damages that the young man's defense claims he suffered as a result of the incident.
The postponement of the case to the "notification" session means that the court is waiting for the official notification of Amr Diab regarding the lawsuit before proceeding to consider its subject and ruling on the plaintiff's requests.
What happened in the slapping incident?
The details of the case date back to a video that circulated widely on social media, in which Amr Diab is seen slapping Saad Osama during a wedding after the young man attempted to take a selfie with the artist.
During the investigations, Amr Diab stated that he was surprised by someone grabbing him and pinching him during the event, explaining that his action was aimed at getting the person away from him. The incident sparked widespread interaction on social media platforms at the time, before the case moved to the courts on both criminal and civil levels.
What did the Court of Cassation say?
Regarding the criminal aspect, the Court of Cassation upheld the ruling issued against Amr Diab, which included a fine of 200 pounds, while upholding the acquittal of Saad Osama and obligating the artist to compensate him with 10,000 pounds. The court clarified in its ruling that the young man's act of putting his hand on the artist was not intended to harm him, but rather to attract his attention, which the court considered negated the necessary criminal intent for the crime against the young man.
With the ruling upheld by the Court of Cassation, the criminal ruling became final, while the new civil lawsuit related to the demand for compensation of one million dollars continues its course before the competent court.
A new session in November
The court is scheduled to reconsider the lawsuit on November 12, after completing the procedures for notifying Amr Diab of the lawsuit. The civil lawsuit focuses on estimating the compensation for the material and moral damages that Saad Osama's defense claims he suffered as a result of the incident, awaiting the outcome of the upcoming judicial procedures.
