The late Syrian artist Mustafa Nasri's oud was gifted to his daughter Assala just hours before her anticipated meeting with the audience in Damascus, marking a family and artistic memory that preceded her return to the Syrian stage after many years of absence.
A circulating video clip revealed Assala receiving her father's oud as a gift from her brother, at a time that gives the musical instrument a value that transcends being merely a family memento; Mustafa Nasri was the key figure in discovering and nurturing his daughter's talent artistically since her childhood, before she paved her way into the Arab scene.
Assala responded to the gift with a message in which she wrote: "My dear brother, thank you for your kindness and your very precious gift, and we have a long meeting ahead," thus recalling her father's presence in her memory coinciding with her return to Syria.

This moment coincided with welcoming messages from Syrian art stars, as artist Mona Wassef said: "The daughter of Damascus has returned to Damascus," while Wafa Mosly and Rowaida Yassin expressed their happiness at her return. Director Samer Barqawi described Assala as an "iconic artist," affirming that "her place is among her audience and her people," while Nour Ali expressed her desire to attend the concert, and Taim Hassan revealed his hope that his commitments would allow him to head to Syria to attend the evening.
Assala will hold the "Return of Assala" concert tomorrow (Thursday) September 17 at the Al-Faiha Hall in Damascus, marking her return to singing in front of the Syrian audience after a long absence, preceded by the release of her "Syrian album" inspired by Syrian heritage and musical identity.
