The suffering of pedestrians continues on the Al-Qabah Dhal road in Abha city, Asir region, when they are forced to cross this vital road to move from the seating area on one side to the mosque across the street or to the restrooms and shops, in the absence of a pedestrian bridge that protects them from the dangers of being run over, relying only on placing pedestrian crossing signs on the asphalt.
“Okaz” field-reported the movement of pedestrians while crossing the road and the dangers they face amid continuous traffic, and met with several citizens who called for the concerned authorities to intervene urgently and build a pedestrian bridge that connects both sides of the road, putting an end to the risks faced by crossers, especially families who frequent the site during the weekend.
Jarah Allah Al-Qahtani explained to “Okaz” that they are waiting for the relevant authority to recognize the importance of establishing a pedestrian bridge at this location, linking the spacious area known as “Al-Tabreedah” with the mosque located on the opposite side, in addition to the nearby shops. He said that “Al-Tabreedah” witnesses a turnout from citizens and families who prefer to sit there during the weekend, making the need for a safe crossing method urgent.
For his part, Abdullah Al-Ahmari told “Okaz”: “It is time to build a pedestrian bridge at this dangerous location, as the risks are significant for those crossing the road while moving between its sides,” pointing out that the construction of the bridge should have been part of the safety requirements in this vital location, as it is a means capable of eliminating the danger and the stress associated with pedestrians crossing the busy road.
For his part, Musfer Hamad confirmed to “Okaz” that he has seen many pedestrians crossing the road using the pedestrian signs, while vehicles stop and wait until they can cross, while some pedestrians are sometimes forced to cross as vehicles approach the site, which he described as a continuous and dangerous situation.
Musfer called for the establishment of a pedestrian bridge that allows crossers to use it comfortably and safely, away from the stress that accompanies crossing the road, especially for families, affirming that providing the bridge would enhance pedestrian safety and protect them from the dangers of being run over.
