With the widespread proliferation of social media platforms, children are receiving a tremendous amount of messages, clips, and news daily, some of which are true and some misleading. This makes building their media awareness a necessity rather than a luxury. In an era where information reaches children, preparing them to handle it has become part of modern education, protecting them from misinformation and enhancing their ability to take a conscious and balanced stance in front of what they see and hear.
Here, the importance of introducing a media curriculum in the early grades becomes evident. It should start in a simplified manner suitable for the students' ages and gradually progress through educational stages until it reaches deeper concepts in advanced levels. The goal is to prepare a generation that can distinguish between fact and rumor, verify information sources, and understand the responsibility of what they publish or share.
The curriculum can include principles of critical thinking, publishing ethics, privacy protection, and responsible use of digital platforms. It can also provide students with space to express themselves and produce simple content that enhances their skills in writing, dialogue, and communication. Teaching media at an early age is an investment in human awareness before it is an addition to curricula.
The Ministry of Education is invited to study this idea and begin gradually implementing a media curriculum according to a well-thought-out educational plan, so that we can create a generation that does not merely consume content but understands, executes, and participates in creating more aware and responsible media.
