Some streets in the bride city (Jeddah) suffer from a lack of sidewalks and lighting, and are not paved with asphalt, such as the neighborhoods of North Obhur (Yaqout, Zumurrud, and Al-Sawari).
This affects the quality of life in several aspects:
First: public safety; the potholes in the streets increase traffic accidents, and the absence of sidewalks puts pedestrians at risk while walking next to vehicles, while dark roads increase the likelihood of accidents, thefts, and assaults.
Second: public health; unpaved streets generate large amounts of dust that affect the respiratory system of the residents of those neighborhoods, especially children and the elderly, and the lack of sidewalks reduces opportunities for exercise (walking), which impacts the physical fitness and mental health of the residents.
Third: the environment; unpaved roads cause water accumulation and mud that lead to environmental degradation due to the proliferation of insects and mosquitoes.
Fourth: mental comfort and general impression; neglecting infrastructure makes residents feel abandoned due to their dissatisfaction with the level of services, in addition to the fact that unprepared roads distort the urban landscape and affect the residential and tourist attractiveness of the neighborhoods.
Fifth: the local economy; the lack of infrastructure reduces the area's attractiveness for investment or the establishment of commercial shops, in addition to exposing vehicles to repeated damage due to potholes and bumps.
In conclusion; improving roads, sidewalks, and lighting is a direct investment in quality of life, in terms of safety, health, mental comfort, and economic development.
