If the "impatient" – regardless of their sects and intentions – had a little patience and some discerning insight, the direct objectives behind Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman’s visit would have become clear to them without any ambiguity. This is far from their speculations and interpretations that stray from the truth, believing that the visit has a direct connection to the blatant aggression the Kingdom is currently facing from the terrorist Houthi militia, due to its "Siamese" connection with the Iranian regime.
The folly in this belief is easier to clarify for those with a modicum of reason and insight, and this can be explained from two perspectives. The first is that the distance between the Kingdom and Yemen is closer than that with Iran on all levels. If the Kingdom saw "dialogue" as the best way to resolve the crisis, it would have pursued that path. However, the reality necessitated addressing the existing situation with the force of arms, given the Houthi obstinacy and arrogance, and their continuous insistence on destabilizing the security of Yemen, the Kingdom, and the entire region, as well as disrupting international shipping in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, serving Iran's agenda. This required curbing their influence and deterring them militarily, a goal the Kingdom will not cease to pursue until it achieves its desired objectives, no matter the cost. The security of the Kingdom is a red line that cannot be compromised or neglected, and the return of legitimacy to the brotherly Yemen is an important demand for regional stability. The Kingdom would not engage in matters it cannot achieve alone, given its capable military system – with God's help – to defend the homeland and deter anyone who dares to threaten the Kingdom's security.
The second perspective regarding the folly of believing that the visit is linked to the repercussions of the Houthi aggression against the Kingdom is seen in the Kingdom's inclusion of a delegation representing the countries of the Mecca Agreement for joint defense (Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey). The nature of this joint formation necessitates a matter concerning the pursuit of "establishing dialogue and regional and international peace." If it were solely a matter between the Kingdom and the terrorist Houthi militia, it would have taken that path alone, given its diplomatic presence that enables it to achieve its desired goals. However, the reality confirms that the Kingdom's military engagement to resolve the crisis of the terrorist Houthi militia is not an "uncalculated adventure," so that the Kingdom would falter midway and seek assistance from the "Mecca Alliance" to find a solution in Tehran. The weakness and frailty in this path are more evident and easier to attribute to the Kingdom.
Therefore, it is logical and natural to read the visit in the context in which it occurred. No matter how much we excuse those who "rowed" away and cast speculations based on the "element of surprise" amid the current tension, this also necessitates looking in the opposite direction, and more accurately, with all its logical and clear implications. First, the sensitive timing of the visit and the signs of a return to American strikes against Iran according to threatening statements, which have escalated indicators of a return to military escalation in the region. Secondly, the visit came "out of the concern of the countries of the Mecca Alliance to support the efforts of Qatari-Pakistani mediation, and to support efforts to de-escalate and restore stability in the region, and to defuse any situation that could jeopardize peace opportunities." This confirms the centrality of the countries of the Mecca Agreement for joint defense, and their determination to push for confidence-building measures and use diplomacy that considers the interests and security concerns between Iran and the countries of the region, enhancing the establishment of regional security and stability, supporting de-escalation, and contributing to ensuring the stability of navigation and energy supply lines. This aligns with the efforts of the negotiation track led by Qatar and Pakistan between Iran and the United States, in a way that is not hidden from bringing closer viewpoints and unifying visions through mutual communication and using all possible tools to achieve that.
All these meanings and clear indicators, which express the purpose behind the visit of the Defense Minister to Iran leading a delegation of the "Mecca Alliance" countries, have been clearly mentioned in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, indicating that the visit comes "as an extension of the role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in establishing regional and international dialogue and peace," and that it "comes within the framework of the continued efforts of the countries of the Mecca Agreement for joint defense to de-escalate tensions between the parties to the current crisis and encourage dialogue and diplomatic solutions, and support the mediation efforts undertaken by the State of Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan."
With this clear clarification, we cannot help but join the voice of the concluding statement of the Foreign Ministry that "the Kingdom looks forward to the parties to the crisis engaging positively and practically with the outcomes of this visit and with the ongoing efforts of Qatar and Pakistan, contributing to resolving the crisis through dialogue and diplomacy," while opening negotiation channels to prevent a return to military escalation in the region, paving the way for reaching an agreement that ends the crisis and achieves security and peace in the region and the world, and establishes the foundations to ensure the security and stability of the region, as that is the desired goal.
