According to the General Authority for Statistics, the percentage of young men and women who have never been married in the age group of 15-34 years reached 66.23%. The percentage of males who have never been married is 75.6%, while the percentage of unmarried females in the age group of 25-34 years is 43.1%. Recently, initiatives have emerged from tribes and dignitaries in various regions to reduce the financial costs of marriage and lower dowries. This has been viewed negatively by young women, as it undermines aspects that concern them. When Umar ibn al-Khattab sought to set a reduced value for dowries, a woman opposed him and proved that this was not permissible by Islamic law, to which he responded, "A woman was right, and Umar was wrong," and he revoked his decision. It is worth noting that the financial requirements for marriage go beyond dowries; even if the dowry were set at one riyal and there were no wedding celebrations, there would still be housing costs and the importance of having a stable job with a high salary that ensures a decent life for the family. Studies have shown that the main reason for divorce is economic factors, meaning that facilitating marriage for those without a high income source that provides a decent life for the family in the long term will lead to divorce and greater problems than not marrying, related to children's suffering from the consequences of divorce, which negatively affects their academic achievement and makes them more susceptible to psychological escape behaviors such as addiction, delinquency, and psychological and social issues. "The report from the Muwadda Association for Family Development" indicates that 61% rely on their parents for marriage expenses, meaning that the majority of the dowry and wedding requirements are paid by the parents. Therefore, the real obstacle is not this, but rather that the young man's income is considered either nonexistent or low and does not provide a decent life for his family. 80% of young people refuse to marry before reaching a high financial capability, meaning that even if the girl does not require high financial demands, the young men themselves now consider themselves unprepared for marriage until they reach a high financial level. Studies have shown that non-economic considerations are the biggest reason for the aversion to marriage; a study on Saudi women in Riyadh by "Noura Al-Ruwaili, Princess Nourah University" found that the reasons for aversion to marriage include "the desire for independence and self-actualization, social fears and challenges, negative perceptions of marriage, and social and cultural changes." A study by "Huda Al-Dughairi, Princess Nourah University" found that "social reasons ranked first, followed by personal reasons, excessive ambition regarding the qualities of a husband or wife, and the fear of intellectual incompatibility with the partner." "Hind Al-Otaibi, Umm Al-Qura University" stated that "the aversion of youth to marriage is linked to the social and cultural structure of society, and the phenomenon decreases to the extent that the society enjoys balance and stability." "Ahd Al-Obaidallah, Tahani Al-Jahani, King Saud University" conducted a study on a sample of males and females aged 35 and above who have never been married in Riyadh, finding that "personal factors ranked first among the factors leading to aversion to marriage, with the highest two statements in personal factors being: the difficulty of finding a partner who is intellectually compatible, and the difficulty of finding a partner with the personal qualities I desire." Meanwhile, social factors ranked second among the factors leading to aversion to marriage, with the highest two statements being: "the high rate of divorce and the negative experiences of others." Health factors ranked third and last, with the highest two statements being "the fear of repeating others' negative experiences and the fear of not being accepted psychologically by the other party." "Tahani Al-Asimi, King Saud University" noted that "the lack of opportunity for young men to meet young women and the problems faced by youth today, regardless of economic factors, are purely psychological and social factors. Unfortunately, the focus has been solely on the economic factor in delaying the age of marriage, but it seems that there are major social and psychological factors that have a stronger impact on youth and cause the delay in the age of marriage." There is a gap in awareness between the genders; young men want a wife like their mothers and grandmothers, while young women no longer accept traditional marriage culture. The solution lies in a developed cultural discourse that bridges this gap.
