A question worth asking. How can we create meaning that aligns with our identity, contemporary and liberated from the different contexts in which the text was created and under conditions that may be different? The other question that must be asked is: Are we consumers or producers? Because while it may seem, superficially, that we interact with symbols and vocabulary, that does not make us partners in producing meaning, as the creation of meaning goes beyond merely interacting with the text.
In answer to the first question: How do we create meaning?
This requires, first, liberation from the original context, without denying or rejecting it, but rather understanding it as a "foundation," and then transcending it through thinking and contemplation: What does this mean to me, here and now? Therefore, creating meaning requires thinking, analysis, and reflection. Definitions in themselves are not liberated from their context, history, and the concepts in which they originated. The creation of meaning is not extraction, but rather a construction that occurs in the gap between the text and the reader. This gap is the space for liberation from what meaning contains. The producer subjects the text to their questions, rather than subjecting themselves to the text's questions. The producer dares to say: "I understand what you meant, but I choose another meaning."
This daring does not come from nowhere, but from an awareness that meaning is not a substance deposited in the text waiting to be discovered; rather, it is an event that occurs between a reader reading with anxiety and a text writing with ambiguity.
Liberation does not mean forgetting; rather, it means not allowing the original context to become a prison, but rather a raw material suitable for demolition and construction. It is the daring to seek another meaning. The true producer does not demolish arbitrarily, but builds an alternative justified by their own questions.
Thus, identity is not a prison that defines reading, but a mine from which the reader extracts their questions, not their answers. The deeper the question, the more cohesive the construction, because the crafted meaning is not measured by its truthfulness to the text, but by its truthfulness to the reader's spirit.
As for the answer to the question: Are we consumers or producers?
The answer is: the consumer seeks an answer that reassures them, while the producer seeks a question that disturbs them.
Creating meaning means not being the recipient who is imprisoned by contexts, the past, and non-contemporary cognitive concepts.
Creating meaning means reinterpreting meanings, provoking questions, and building a meaning that transcends inherited, dominant, or reductive content.
Creating meaning means knowing what you reject, building what you demolish, having the courage to reconsider and rebuild, and saying "I don't know" when the truth calls for it.
Creating meaning is not merely an individual act; it is a dialogue between a dead text and a living reader, between a stagnant history and a fluid present. In this dialogue, you are not just a listener, but a partner in composing the music.
For here, music is not a pre-written melody, but an improvisation that takes shape in the moment of reading, where the text ceases to be an authority and becomes a companion in the journey of interpretation. Thus, each time we read, we reinvent the world a little, and we reinvent ourselves a lot.
