In an effort to raise the banner of the state over the skies of resilience and diplomacy, the efforts of the Ministry of Defense, led by Prince Khalid bin Salman, have manifested in a clear and profound development of a force that seeks peace and establishes an effective position in international politics, based on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, with direct support from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman - may Allah protect them both.
The observer of the journey of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia fully realizes that the goal of the Ministry of Defense is to build a modern military force that represents an extension of the strategic, political, and economic vision. The military institution has absorbed that goal and has worked on a comprehensive modernization of weapons and ammunition under the supervision of His Royal Highness the Minister of Defense. The latest air defense systems and strategic fighters have been introduced, enhancing air deterrence capability and maintaining freedom of the skies, alongside diligent efforts to localize military industries. Prince Khalid bin Salman has chaired the Board of Directors of the Saudi Military Industries Company (SAMI), which works to increase the localization rate in defense, and has launched the "Defense Industrial Institutes" to prepare skilled Saudi hands for effective participation in this industry.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia aims to enhance military strength for diplomacy and the establishment of peace in the Middle East and the entire world. We witnessed a historic visit by the Minister of Defense to Iran on April 17, 2025, which represents a significant milestone in the Saudi approach, reaffirming that "strength is a path to peace," with a hand that possesses capability and a civilizational role. The Kingdom has also sought to establish strong defense partnerships and plans for visits to enhance military cooperation with many countries at both the Arab and global levels, demonstrating a balanced approach in a multidimensional foreign policy.
Protecting the homeland and its resources is a religious and national duty, a principle that His Royal Highness the Minister of Defense has embraced and established as a doctrine rather than mere rhetoric. He has relied on it in developing the ministry's institutions, including the establishment of King Salman Air Base in Riyadh, built according to the latest construction standards - with integrated infrastructure and facilities - to enhance the readiness of the forces and safeguard the skies of the homeland, alongside the development of a naval fleet through signing agreements for the purchase and production of frigates and corvettes, ensuring comprehensive protection for the Kingdom's shores and maritime passages.
Military readiness does not stop at mechanical development alone; the ministry has aimed to build military personnel in pursuit of creating an army that combines knowledge and strength. This includes the establishment of the National Defense University (SANDU), which was founded in 2024 in collaboration with international centers to qualify officers and military leaders in modern and strategic training fields. This is in addition to a comprehensive restructuring plan that includes three directions represented in (management - operations - armament) to achieve military balance based on the pillars of education and training.
There is no doubt that strength complements diplomacy; indeed, all institutions are interconnected in a single circle that revolves integrally around its core, which is the homeland. One of the most prominent examples of this integration among state institutions is the signing of a memorandum of understanding by His Royal Highness the Minister of Defense with Iraq to enhance military cooperation between the two countries. This came as part of Prince Khalid bin Salman’s approach to building common security and strategic alliances in the region.
What Prince Khalid bin Salman has adopted as a constructive path for military strength does not serve aggressive tendencies; rather, it is a wise choice in a changing world. When strength is built on a solid vision and moderate diplomatic guidance, it becomes a guarantee of peace, not an entry point for conflict.
