Four astronauts returned to Earth today (Thursday) after a mission that lasted about eight months aboard the International Space Station, culminating in the landing of the SpaceX "Dragon" capsule in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Los Angeles.
The crew included NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway, European Space Agency astronaut Sophie Adenot, and Russian space agency astronaut Andrei Fedyaev.
237 Days in Space
NASA announced that the crew spent 237 days aboard the International Space Station, during which its members conducted four spacewalks throughout the mission that began last February.
The mission was launched to replace a previous crew after astronaut Mike Fincke experienced a health issue that required his return to Earth.
Safe Landing in the Ocean
The capsule landed at 11:34 AM Eastern Time, while rescue teams began retrieving the vehicle and the astronauts to transport them for the usual medical checks after returning from space.
This was the first space mission for both Hathaway and Adenot, while it was the second for Fedyaev, and Meir increased her total to 440 days in space.
