في عملية أمنية واسعة امتدت خمسة أيام وتجاوزت حدود الولاية، تمكنت السلطات الأمريكية من الوصول إلى 163 طفلاً مفقوداً، في واحدة من أكبر عمليات البحث والإنقاذ التي شهدتها فلوريدا، وسط مؤشرات إلى تعرض عدد من الأطفال للاستغلال والإساءة والإهمال.
وأعلنت السلطات الأمنية في ولاية فلوريدا نجاح عملية «درع الولاية»، التي أسفرت عن العثور على أطفال تراوح أعمارهم بين شهرين و17 عاماً.
وقال المدعي العام لولاية فلوريدا، جيمس أثماير، إن بعض الأطفال الذين جرى العثور عليهم كانوا ضحايا لظروف معقدة، شملت الاتجار بالبشر والإساءة الجسدية والإهمال، وفق ما أوردته «فوكس نيوز».
ولم تتوقف عمليات البحث داخل فلوريدا، إذ امتدت جهود التعقب إلى 6 ولايات أمريكية أخرى، إضافة إلى بورتوريكو و12 دولة، من بينها المكسيك وكندا وإسبانيا وإيطاليا وكولومبيا.
وقادت إدارة إنفاذ القانون في فلوريدا (FDLE) العملية بالتعاون مع جهات اتحادية ودولية، وأسفرت التحريات الأولية عن توقيف 3 أشخاص على الأقل، على خلفية اتهامات شملت الاعتداء الجنسي على قاصرين، والتعدي، والتدخل في حضانة الأطفال.
وعقب العثور عليهم، نُقل الأطفال إلى جهات ومراكز متخصصة لتقييم أوضاعهم وتوفير الرعاية الطبية.
In a wide-ranging security operation that lasted five days and crossed state lines, U.S. authorities were able to locate 163 missing children, in one of the largest search and rescue operations seen in Florida, amid indications that several children had been subjected to exploitation, abuse, and neglect.
Florida law enforcement announced the success of Operation "State Shield," which resulted in the recovery of children aged between two months and 17 years.
Florida Attorney General, James Athmaier, stated that some of the children found were victims of complex circumstances, including human trafficking, physical abuse, and neglect, according to reports from "Fox News."
The search efforts did not stop within Florida, as tracking efforts extended to six other U.S. states, in addition to Puerto Rico and 12 countries, including Mexico, Canada, Spain, Italy, and Colombia.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) led the operation in collaboration with federal and international agencies, and initial investigations resulted in the arrest of at least three individuals on charges that included sexual assault of minors, battery, and interference with child custody.
Following their recovery, the children were transferred to specialized agencies and centers for assessment of their conditions and provision of medical care.
