في خطوة مدوية هزت عرش شبكات التواصل الاجتماعي وأعادت ملف خصوصية الصغار إلى الواجهة، وافقت شركة «تيك توك» وشركتها الأم الصينية «بايت دانس» على دفع تسوية مالية ضخمة تبلغ 400 مليون دولار، لحل النزاع القضائي المحتدم مع وزارة العدل الأمريكية بشأن اتهامات خطيرة بجمع بيانات الأطفال بطرق غير قانونية.
وتعود جذور الأزمة إلى دعوى قضائية رفعتها الحكومة الأمريكية متهمة التطبيق الشهير بانتهاك التشريعات الاتحادية التي تحظر جمع المعلومات الشخصية كالعناوين والأسماء من المستخدمين دون سن الـ13، دون الحصول على موافقة مسبقة وصريحة من أولياء أمورهم.
وبحسب تفاصيل الاتفاق، ستدفع الشركة المملوكة لمستثمرين أمريكيين 300 مليون دولار بشكل فوري، على أن يُسدد مبلغ الـ100 مليون دولار المتبقي فور صدور قرار محدد بإلغاء مرسوم قضائي سابق يعود لعام 2019 كان قد فرض على التطبيق حينما كان يُعرف باسم «ميوزيكالي».
وتأتي هذه التسوية بالتزامن مع تغييرات هيكلية وافقت عليها «بايت دانس» لتأسيس مشروع مشترك يضمن سلامة بيانات أكثر من 200 مليون مستخدم أمريكي.
وفي محاولة لتفادي الحظر أو الملاحقات القضائية المطولة، فرضت المنصة إجراءات صرامة تمنع استخدام التطبيق دون إدخال تاريخ الميلاد، مع دعم العمل بأنظمة ذكية لمراقبة الأعمار، وتوظيف مئات المشرفين المدربين على تعقب حسابات القاصرين، مما أسفر عن إغلاق وحذف عشرات الآلاف من حسابات الأطفال دون السن القانونية.
In a resounding move that shook the throne of social media networks and brought the issue of children's privacy back to the forefront, TikTok and its Chinese parent company ByteDance have agreed to pay a massive settlement of $400 million to resolve the ongoing legal dispute with the U.S. Department of Justice over serious allegations of illegally collecting data from children.
The roots of the crisis trace back to a lawsuit filed by the U.S. government, accusing the popular app of violating federal laws that prohibit the collection of personal information such as addresses and names from users under the age of 13 without obtaining prior and explicit consent from their parents.
According to the details of the agreement, the company owned by American investors will pay $300 million immediately, with the remaining $100 million to be paid once a specific decision is made to overturn a previous court order from 2019 that had been imposed on the app when it was known as "Musical.ly."
This settlement comes alongside structural changes approved by ByteDance to establish a joint venture that ensures the safety of data for over 200 million American users.
In an attempt to avoid bans or lengthy legal proceedings, the platform has implemented strict measures that prevent the use of the app without entering a date of birth, along with supporting the operation of smart age-monitoring systems and employing hundreds of trained moderators to track the accounts of minors, resulting in the closure and deletion of tens of thousands of underage children's accounts.
