لم يكن الشاب البلجيكي كوبي (18 عاماً) يتوقع أن يمهد له عمله الصيفي البسيط في ورشة حفر طريقاً نحو ثروة خيالية تُقدر بـ 9 ملايين يورو! ففي صباح يوم ثلاثاء عادي، وأثناء عمله على مدّ أنابيب الصرف الصحي في موقع مصنع جعة قديم بمدينة «سانت غيليس ديندرموند» (شمال غرب بروكسل)، تحول الروتين إلى لقطة سينمائية غيرت مجرى اليوم كلياً.
في البداية، لمح «كوبي» بريقاً في التراب، فظن أنه عثر على مجرد قطع نقدية معدنية متناثرة من فئة «يورو واحد»، لكن المفاجأة زلزلت الموقع عندما اقتلع والعمال جداراً طوبياً قديماً ليجدوا كيساً مخفياً بعناية داخل سرداب مهجور كلياً.
ولم تكن المفاجأة مجرد عملات قديمة، بل سبائك ذهبية مرقمة وكتل من الذهب الخالص مخبأة بعناية فائقة خلف الطوب، بعيداً عن الخزائن التقليدية التي يستهدفها اللصوص.
أعادت هذه الثروة الأذهان إلى تاريخ الموقع، إذ تشير المعلومات إلى أن الكنز كان مخبأ في قبو فيلا فخمة جرى إغلاقها عمداً، وكانت مملوكة لصاحب مصنع الجعة الشهير «ثيوفيلوس فان أسّه» في أواخر القرن التاسع عشر.
