تحولت أعمال ترميم وصيانة روتينية في مبنى ببلدة سينت-غيليس-بي-ديندرموند البلجيكية إلى اكتشاف ثروة مخبأة قدرت قيمتها بنحو 9 ملايين يورو، بعدما عثر عمال بناء على خزنة سرية داخل أحد جدران القبو، تبين أنها تحتوي على كميات كبيرة من الذهب والعملات والسبائك.
وأفادت قناة «RTL»، نقلًا عن النيابة العامة في إقليم فلاندرز الشرقية، بأن الخزنة كانت تضم شذرات ذهبية تحمل أرقامًا تعريفية، إلى جانب عملات وسبائك ذهبية، مشيرة إلى أن التقديرات الأولية لقيمة محتوياتها تصل إلى نحو 9 ملايين يورو.
وجاء الاكتشاف على نحو غير متوقع، عندما كان موظفو شركة البناء «دي براند» ينفذون أعمال ترميم في مبنى تابع لمركز المساعدة الاجتماعية العامة في المنطقة. وأثناء هدم أحد جدران القبو، فوجئ العمال بوجود خزنة مخبأة داخله.
وأبلغ العمال صاحب العمل فورًا بما عثروا عليه، قبل أن تصل الشرطة إلى الموقع وتتولى تأمين الذهب ونقله إلى مكان آمن، تمهيدًا لبدء التحقيق في مصدره والجهة التي تعود إليها ملكيته.
وتعمل النيابة العامة في فلاندرز الشرقية حاليًا على تحديد هوية صاحب الخزنة وملابسات إخفاء هذه الثروة داخل جدار المبنى، فيما لم يتقدم أي شخص حتى الآن إلى السلطات للمطالبة بالذهب أو الإبلاغ عن فقدانه.
ويثير العثور على هذه الكمية الضخمة من الذهب داخل مبنى خاضع لأعمال الترميم تساؤلات بشأن تاريخ الخزنة وسبب إخفائها، وما إذا كانت مرتبطة بمالك سابق للعقار أو بأموال ظلت مجهولة المصدر لسنوات.

وتحول الاكتشاف غير المتوقع من مجرد أعمال هدم وترميم إلى قضية قانونية ومالية كبيرة، إذ بات على السلطات البلجيكية تحديد مصدر ملايين اليوروهات من الذهب، قبل حسم الجهة التي ستؤول إليها هذه الثروة.
Routine renovation and maintenance work in a building in the town of Sint-Gillis-Bij-Dendermonde, Belgium, turned into the discovery of a hidden treasure estimated to be worth around 9 million euros, after construction workers found a secret safe inside one of the basement walls, which contained large quantities of gold, coins, and bars.
The channel "RTL" reported, citing the public prosecutor's office in the province of East Flanders, that the safe contained gold nuggets with identification numbers, along with gold coins and bars, noting that initial estimates of the value of its contents reach about 9 million euros.
The discovery came unexpectedly while employees of the construction company "De Brand" were carrying out renovation work in a building belonging to the public social assistance center in the area. While demolishing one of the basement walls, the workers were surprised to find a hidden safe inside.
The workers immediately informed their employer about what they had found, before the police arrived at the site to secure the gold and transfer it to a safe location, in preparation for starting an investigation into its source and the party to whom it belongs.
The public prosecutor's office in East Flanders is currently working to identify the owner of the safe and the circumstances surrounding the concealment of this wealth within the wall of the building, while no one has yet approached the authorities to claim the gold or report its loss.
The discovery of this massive amount of gold inside a building undergoing renovation raises questions about the history of the safe and the reason for its concealment, and whether it is linked to a previous owner of the property or to funds that have remained of unknown origin for years.
According to available information, the fate of the gold will be determined based on the results of the investigations and legal procedures related to proving ownership. If the rightful owner cannot be reached, the funds may go to the social entity that owns the building, which has expressed its desire to direct them towards creating additional shelters for the homeless.
This unexpected discovery has transformed from mere demolition and renovation work into a significant legal and financial case, as Belgian authorities must determine the source of millions of euros worth of gold before deciding who will inherit this wealth.
