صورة واحدة من سطح المريخ كانت كفيلة بإشعال موجة جديدة من التساؤلات على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي، بعدما زعم متداولون أنها تُظهر هيئة بشرية تسير فوق الكوكب الأحمر، في مشهد أعاد الجدل حول ما إذا كانت هناك أسرار خفية على سطح المريخ.
وتعود الصورة المثيرة للجدل إلى عام 2007، عندما التقطتها مركبة «سبيريت» التابعة لوكالة ناسا ضمن مهمة استكشاف تضاريس المريخ. وتُظهر اللقطة مشهدًا بانوراميًا واسعًا لسطح الكوكب، تتوسطه كتلة صخرية بدت للبعض وكأنها تمتلك ذراعين ممدودتين وساقًا متقدمة إلى الأمام، ما جعلها تبدو كأنها شخص يتحرك في منتصف خطوة.
وكانت مركبة «سبيريت» قد التقطت الصورة خلال المرحلة الأخيرة من مهمتها، قبل أن تعلق في الرمال عام 2009 بسبب صعوبة الحركة، لتنهي ناسا مهمتها رسميًا عام 2011 بعد فقدان الاتصال بها.
وأثارت الصورة تباينًا واسعًا بين المتابعين؛ إذ رأى البعض فيها ما يشبه «رجلًا يمشي على سطح المريخ»، بينما ذهب آخرون إلى أنها قد تكون تمثالًا أو شكلًا يشبه شخصًا راكعًا يمد يده.
في المقابل، رجح العديد من المتابعين والخبراء أن الأمر لا يتجاوز كونه تكوينًا صخريًا طبيعيًا اتخذ شكلًا مألوفًا للعين البشرية، رغم محاولة البعض الاستناد إلى عدم وجود صخور مشابهة في المنطقة المحيطة لتأكيد غرابة المشهد.
وتؤكد وكالة ناسا بشكل مستمر عدم العثور على أي دليل يثبت وجود حياة خارج الأرض، سواء في الوقت الحالي أو في الماضي، على سطح المريخ.
من جانبها، أوضحت جمعية الكواكب أن التفسير الأقرب لهذه الظاهرة هو ما يُعرف بـ«الباريدوليا» (Pareidolia)، وهي ظاهرة نفسية تجعل الدماغ البشري يبحث عن أشكال مألوفة، مثل الوجوه أو الأجسام البشرية، داخل أنماط عشوائية لا تحمل تلك المعاني فعليًا.

The controversial image dates back to 2007, when it was captured by NASA's "Spirit" rover during its mission to explore the Martian terrain. The snapshot shows a wide panoramic view of the planet's surface, with a rock formation in the center that appeared to some as if it had outstretched arms and a leg stepping forward, making it look like a person in mid-stride.
The "Spirit" rover took the picture during the final phase of its mission, before it became stuck in sand in 2009 due to mobility issues, leading NASA to officially end its mission in 2011 after losing contact with it.
The image sparked a wide range of opinions among viewers; some saw it as resembling "a man walking on the surface of Mars," while others suggested it could be a statue or a shape resembling a person kneeling with an outstretched hand.
In contrast, many followers and experts suggested that it is merely a natural rock formation that took on a familiar shape to the human eye, despite some attempts to argue that the absence of similar rocks in the surrounding area confirms the strangeness of the scene.
NASA continuously asserts that no evidence has been found to prove the existence of life beyond Earth, either currently or in the past, on the surface of Mars.
For its part, the Planetary Society explained that the most likely explanation for this phenomenon is what is known as "pareidolia," a psychological phenomenon that causes the human brain to seek familiar shapes, such as faces or human figures, within random patterns that do not actually carry those meanings.
