في قلب المحيط الأطلسي، تحولت رحلة بحرية عادية إلى لحظات من الرعب والفوضى، بعدما غرقت عبارة كانت تقل عشرات الأشخاص، ما دفع فرق الإنقاذ إلى خوض سباق مع الزمن للبحث عن ناجين وسط ظروف صعبة.
وأعلنت السلطات في غويانا، الأحد، إنقاذ 53 شخصًا على الأقل عقب غرق عبارة قبالة السواحل، فيما كانت تقل نحو 116 راكبًا إلى جانب أفراد طاقمها، مع استمرار عمليات البحث وسط توقعات بارتفاع عدد الناجين.
وقال رئيس الوزراء مارك فيليبس إن فرق الإنقاذ تمكنت حتى الآن من انتشال 53 شخصًا، مؤكدًا أن العدد مرشح للزيادة مع تواصل الجهود في موقع الحادثة.
وكانت العبارة «أم في باريام مدينة جورج تاون» قد غادرت في وقت سابق متجهة إلى بورت كايتونا، قبل أن تتلقى السلطات نداء استغاثة عند الساعة 11 مساء، وفق ما أوضحه وزير الأشغال العامة خوان إدغيل.
وأشار الوزير إلى أن العبارة كانت مجهزة بـ250 سترة نجاة، موضحًا أنه جرى إرسال قارب إلى موقع الحادثة لتقديم المساعدة الطبية وتأمين الناجين.
ولا تزال فرق الطوارئ تواصل عمليات البحث والإنقاذ، في محاولة للوصول إلى بقية الركاب ومعرفة الملابسات الكاملة التي أدت إلى غرق العبارة.

Prime Minister Mark Phillips stated that rescue teams have managed to recover 53 people so far, confirming that the number is likely to rise as efforts continue at the incident site.
The ferry "MV Barima Georgetown" had departed earlier heading to Port Kaituma, before authorities received a distress call at 11 PM, as explained by Public Works Minister Juan Edghill.
The minister noted that the ferry was equipped with 250 life jackets, explaining that a boat was sent to the incident site to provide medical assistance and secure the survivors.
Emergency teams are still continuing search and rescue operations, in an attempt to reach the remaining passengers and understand the full circumstances that led to the sinking of the ferry.
