ضرب زلزال بقوة 7.4 درجة، اليوم، قبالة سواحل ولاية تشياباس جنوب المكسيك، مما دفع السلطات إلى إصدار تحذير من احتمال تشكل أمواج مد عاتية «تسونامي»، فيما شعر بالهزة سكان في جواتيمالا والسلفادور.
وأفادت هيئة المسح الجيولوجي الأمريكية بأن الزلزال وقع بالقرب من مدينة بويرتو ماديرو المكسيكية، على عمق نحو 10 كيلومترات، فيما حذّر نظام الإنذار من التسونامي في الولايات المتحدة من احتمال وصول أمواج خطرة إلى السواحل الواقعة ضمن نطاق 300 كيلومتر من مركز الزلزال.
وتسببت الهزة في اهتزاز المباني وإخلاء عدد منها في جواتيمالا، كما شعر بها سكان ولاية أواكساكا جنوب المكسيك، دون ورود تقارير فورية عن وقوع أضرار جسيمة أو إصابات.
A 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck today off the coast of Chiapas, southern Mexico, prompting authorities to issue a warning about the potential for dangerous tsunami waves, while residents in Guatemala and El Salvador felt the tremor.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the earthquake occurred near the Mexican city of Puerto Madero, at a depth of about 10 kilometers, while the U.S. tsunami warning system cautioned that dangerous waves could reach coastlines within 300 kilometers of the earthquake's epicenter.
The tremor caused buildings to shake and led to the evacuation of several in Guatemala, and it was also felt by residents in Oaxaca state in southern Mexico, with no immediate reports of significant damage or injuries.
