مددت مايكروسوفت بشكل مفاجئ فترة دعم Windows 10، عبر برنامج التحديثات الأمنية الممتدة ESU حتى 12 أكتوبر 2027، بعد أن كان الموعد النهائي السابق ينتهي في أكتوبر 2026. وجاء التمديد بهدوء عبر تحديث رسمي لصفحة البرنامج، ليمنح مئات الملايين من الأجهزة العاملة بالنظام عامًا إضافيًا من تحديثات الأمان الشهرية.
ويعكس القرار رفض شريحة واسعة من المستخدمين الانتقال إلى Windows 11، خاصة مع استمرار الجدل حول استهلاكه العالي للذاكرة العشوائية، مقارنةً بكفاءة Windows 10. وزاد الجدل هذا الأسبوع بعد طرح أجهزة Surface اقتصادية بذاكرة 8 غيغابايت فقط، رغم سنوات من تأكيد مايكروسوفت أن 16 غيغابايت هو الحد الأدنى المثالي.
ويتيح برنامج ESU لمستخدمي Windows 10 إصدار 22H2، الاستمرار في تلقي التحديثات الأمنية الحرجة بعد انتهاء الدعم الرسمي في أكتوبر 2025، دون إضافة ميزات جديدة أو إصلاحات غير أمنية. ويبدو، أن التمديد يعكس إدراك مايكروسوفت لحجم الاعتماد العالمي المستمر على Windows 10، وصعوبة انتقال المستخدمين السريع إلى Windows 11.
