أُصيب 15 شخصاً أحدهم في حالة حرجة، إثر اصطدام حافلة ذات طابقين بجسر منخفض في منطقة إيكولز-مانشستر الكبرى، ما أدى إلى اقتلاع سقف الطابق العلوي وتناثر الحطام في الشارع.
ووفقاً لما نقلته صحيفة «التليغراف»، فقد وقع الحادث عند تقاطع شارعي بارتون وترافورد، في تمام الساعة 3:00 مساء. وأظهرت كاميرات منزلية لحظة الاصطدام، حيث بدا الركاب وهم يحاولون الاحتماء، بينما تناثرت أجزاء من الحافلة على الطريق.
وأعلنت خدمات الإسعاف عن «حادث كبير» فور تلقي البلاغ، وأرسلت 10 سيارات إسعاف، ومروحية طبية، وفريق الاستجابة للطوارئ. وتم نقل جميع المصابين إلى مستشفيَي سالفورد الملكي ومانشستر الملكي، وقد أُنهيت حالة الطوارئ عند الساعة 4:22 مساء.
وقال المفوض الإقليمي للنقل فيرنون إيفيريت، إن التركيز كان على دعم فرق الطوارئ ومساعدة المصابين، مؤكداً بدء تحقيق فوري بالتعاون مع شرطة مانشستر الكبرى ومشغّل الحافلة «ستيج كوتش». وتبيّن أن الحافلة لم تكن على مسارها المعتاد وقت وقوع الحادث، وكانت تعمل ضمن خدمة النقل رقم 100.
ووصف سكان المنطقة المشهد بأنه «مرعب»، وأشار بعضهم إلى أن هذه ليست المرة الأولى التي يقع فيها حادث عند الجسر نفسه. إحدى الشهود قالت إنها سمعت صراخاً من داخل الحافلة، فيما أوضح أحد السكان أن شخصين سقطا من الطابق العلوي بعد الاصطدام.
وأعاد الحادث إلى الأذهان حوادث سابقة عند الجسر ذاته، من بينها اصطدام حافلة في 2023 وأخرى في 2020، ما يطرح تساؤلات متكررة بشأن إجراءات السلامة في هذا الموقع الحيوي.
Fifteen people were injured, one of them critically, after a double-decker bus collided with a low bridge in the Eccles-Manchester area, causing the roof of the upper deck to be torn off and debris to scatter in the street.
According to reports from the "Telegraph," the incident occurred at the intersection of Barton and Trafford streets at exactly 3:00 PM. Home security cameras captured the moment of the collision, showing passengers trying to take cover as parts of the bus scattered across the road.
Ambulance services declared a "major incident" upon receiving the report, dispatching 10 ambulances, a medical helicopter, and an emergency response team. All the injured were taken to Salford Royal and Manchester Royal hospitals, and the emergency was declared over at 4:22 PM.
Regional transport commissioner Vernon Everitt stated that the focus was on supporting emergency teams and assisting the injured, confirming that an immediate investigation had begun in collaboration with Greater Manchester Police and the bus operator "Stagecoach." It was found that the bus was not on its usual route at the time of the incident and was operating on service number 100.
Local residents described the scene as "terrifying," with some noting that this is not the first time an accident has occurred at the same bridge. One witness said she heard screams from inside the bus, while a resident explained that two people fell from the upper deck after the collision.
The incident recalled previous accidents at the same bridge, including a bus collision in 2023 and another in 2020, raising recurring questions about safety measures at this vital location.
