رفض الاتحاد الإيطالي لكرة القدم، أي مشاركة لا تأتي من خلال التأهل الرياضي المباشر. وشدد وزير الرياضة الإيطالي أندريا أبودي على أن فكرة إعادة منتخب إيطاليا لكرة القدم إلى البطولة «غير ممكنة وغير مناسبة»، مؤكدا أن المعايير الرياضية وحدها يجب أن تحدد هوية المنتخبات المشاركة، دون اللجوء إلى قرارات استثنائية.
من جهته، عبر رئيس اللجنة الأولمبية الإيطالية لوتشيانو بونفيليو عن موقف أكثر حدة، واصفا فكرة التعويض أو الاستدعاء بأنها «مخجلة وغير مقبولة»، لما تحمله من انتقاص لمبدأ الاستحقاق الرياضي.
وجاءت هذه التصريحات في ظل تقارير إعلامية تحدثت عن سيناريوهات محتملة لإعادة توزيع المقاعد في كأس العالم 2026، خصوصا في حال انسحاب منتخب إيران لكرة القدم بسبب توترات سياسية ودبلوماسية.
وأعادت هذه التكهنات اسم إيطاليا إلى الواجهة، رغم فشلها في التأهل حتى الآن.
يذكر أنه حتى الآن، لا يوجد قرار رسمي يمنع منتخب إيران لكرة القدم من المشاركة في كأس العالم 2026.
وتعرضت إيطاليا لصدمة كبيرة في مارس الماضي، بعد أن فشل المنتخب الوطني في التأهل إلى كأس العالم للمرة الثالثة على التوالي، عقب هزيمته أمام البوسنة والهرسك (1-4) بركلات الترجيح في الملحق الأوروبي للتصفيات.
يذكر أن قرعة مونديال 2026 في الولايات المتحدة وكندا والمكسيك، أوقعت منتخب إيران في مجموعة واحدة وهي السابعة مع منتخبات كل من بلجيكا، مصر، ونيوزيلندا.

These statements came amid media reports discussing potential scenarios for reallocating spots in the 2026 World Cup, especially in the event of the Iranian national football team withdrawing due to political and diplomatic tensions.
This speculation has brought Italy's name back into the spotlight, despite its failure to qualify so far.
It is worth noting that, as of now, there is no official decision preventing the Iranian national football team from participating in the 2026 World Cup.
Italy faced a significant shock last March, after the national team failed to qualify for the World Cup for the third consecutive time, following its defeat against Bosnia and Herzegovina (1-4) in the European qualifying playoffs.
It is noted that the draw for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico placed the Iranian team in Group 7 alongside teams from Belgium, Egypt, and New Zealand.
