في تصريح نادر يتناول علاقته مع غريمه التاريخي كريستيانو رونالدو، قال النجم الأرجنتيني ليونيل ميسي إنهما ليسا صديقين.
وأوضح ميسي في مقابلة مع قناة DSports أن العلاقة بينه وبين قائد النصر السعودي لم تتجاوز إطار المنافسة داخل الملعب، مشيراً إلى أن «التنافس بيننا كان دائماً على أرض الملعب، وكل منا كان يسعى لتقديم الأفضل لفريقه، لكن خارج الملعب نحن شخصان عاديان».
وأضاف: «لدينا الكثير من الاحترام والإعجاب المتبادل، وأنا أقدّر المسيرة التي قدّمها كريستيانو وما زال يقدّمها، لأنه لا يزال يتنافس في أعلى المستويات».
ورغم اعتراف ميسي بعدم وجود صداقة فعلية بينه وبين رونالدو (40 عاماً) إلا أنه شدد على أن علاقتهما اتسمت دائماً بالاحترام، وأن كل ما كان بينهما «بقي داخل حدود المستطيل الأخضر».
وكان رونالدو قد أشار في تصريحات سابقة إلى ما وصفه بـ«العلاقة الجيدة» التي تجمعه بميسي، مؤكداً أن التنافس بينهما كان «صحياً» و«ساهم في رفع مستوى اللعبة»، بل وأعرب عن إعجابه بمسيرة ميسي، مشيراً إلى أن ابنه معجب بمهاراته.
وبعد أكثر من عقدين من التنافس، يمتلك النجمان مجتمعين 19 لقب دوري، و9 ألقاب دوري أبطال أوروبا، و7 ألقاب دولية، إضافة إلى 13 كرة ذهبية (8 منها لميسي و5 لرونالدو) في واحدة من أعظم حقب كرة القدم عبر التاريخ.
In a rare statement addressing his relationship with his historic rival Cristiano Ronaldo, Argentine star Lionel Messi said that they are not friends.
Messi explained in an interview with the channel DSports that the relationship between him and the captain of Al Nassr has not gone beyond the framework of competition on the field, noting that "the rivalry between us has always been on the pitch, and each of us has sought to give the best for his team, but off the field, we are just two ordinary people."
He added: "We have a lot of mutual respect and admiration, and I appreciate the career that Cristiano has had and continues to have, as he is still competing at the highest levels."
Despite Messi's acknowledgment of the lack of a real friendship between him and Ronaldo (40 years old), he emphasized that their relationship has always been characterized by respect, and that everything between them "remained within the boundaries of the green rectangle."
Ronaldo had previously mentioned in statements what he described as the "good relationship" he shares with Messi, affirming that the competition between them was "healthy" and "contributed to raising the level of the game," and even expressed his admiration for Messi's career, noting that his son is a fan of his skills.
After more than two decades of competition, the two stars collectively hold 19 league titles, 9 Champions League titles, and 7 international titles, in addition to 13 Ballon d'Or awards (8 of which belong to Messi and 5 to Ronaldo) in one of the greatest eras of football in history.
