U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed on Monday that U.S. President Donald Trump is open to any steps that could end the Russian-Ukrainian war, emphasizing that the American priority is to put an end to the conflict.
Rubio denied, during his remarks to reporters in Uzbekistan, that there has been a halt in the exchange of intelligence information between Washington and Kyiv or that any restrictions have been imposed, in response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's criticisms regarding the lack of prior warnings about Russian ballistic missile strikes overnight.
Rubio stated that he could not comment on the recent strikes, denying Zelensky's claim that important early warning data related to Russian missile launches was suspended last week, adding: "I don’t know where he gets these things or why he says these things to the press. What he should focus on, and what we want to focus on, is putting an end to this war."
Zelensky announced yesterday (Sunday) that the United States has resumed intelligence sharing with his country, following days of escalating tensions with Trump over U.S. decisions regarding sanctions on Russia and Russian diesel supplies.
In contrast, Zelensky announced today that a Russian attack overnight damaged more than 10 energy infrastructure facilities in Ukraine, causing power outages for at least 550,000 households. He pointed to what he described as a disruption in the supply of missiles designated for Ukrainian air defense systems, coinciding with the U.S. easing or postponing some sanctions imposed on Russia.
Trump criticized Zelensky for targeting Russian diesel refineries, considering that these attacks have caused "significant damage" to global diesel markets. Trump stated in a post he shared on Sunday via the "Truth Social" platform that he continues to engage in peace talks related to the war and does not want to take any steps that could push Russia away from the negotiating table.
On October 9, Trump announced reaching an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding diesel supplies, which includes providing U.S. and global markets with more than 300,000 tons immediately, an additional 500,000 tons during November, and then one million tons thereafter.
