كشفت مصادر مطلعة لوكالة «رويترز»، أن الولايات المتحدة تجري محادثات مع ألمانيا ودول أوروبية أخرى حول إقامة مشروع إنتاج مشترك لصواريخ «إيه.آي.إم-120 أمرام» التابعة لشركة رايثيون، وتشييد منشأة صيانة لصواريخ باك-3 باتريوت التابعة لشركة لوكهيد في أوروبا.
وأكدت أن الخطوة الأمريكية الجديدة تحقق معادلة زيادة إنتاج الصواريخ محليا، وتعزز قدرة الحلفاء الأوروبيين على تعزيز مخزونهم من هذا السلاح.
وفي حال تنفيذ المشروعين، فمن شأنهما أن يوفرا حيزا من السعة الإنتاجية في مصانع رايثيون، ولوكهيد مارتن في الولايات المتحدة، بما يتيح لعملاقي الصناعات الدفاعية الأمريكيين زيادة إنتاجهما محليا.
وأفادت المصادر بأن الطرفين سيوقعان بيان نوايا خلال منتدى الصناعة التابع لحلف شمال الأطلسي على هامش قمة الحلف العسكري التي ستعقد في أنقرة في وقت لاحق من اليوم (الثلاثاء).
وكان الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، انتقد مرارا الحلفاء الأوروبيين لاعتمادهم على الولايات المتحدة في شؤونهم الأمنية، في وقت يواصل فيه الضغط عليهم لزيادة الإنفاق الدفاعي وشراء مزيد من العتاد الأمريكي. وهدد في مناسبات عدة بانسحاب واشنطن من الحلف.
وتأتي هذه الخطوة في ظل تنامي المخاوف في واشنطن بشأن قدرة شركات تصنيع الأسلحة الأمريكية على تلبية الطلب المتزايد، بعدما استنزفت الحرب في أوكرانيا وحرب إيران المخزونات العسكرية الأمريكية. وشجع ترمب على الإنتاج المشترك للأسلحة الأمريكية مع أوروبا.
Informed sources revealed to Reuters that the United States is in talks with Germany and other European countries about establishing a joint production project for Raytheon's AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles and building a maintenance facility for Lockheed's PAC-3 Patriot missiles in Europe.
They confirmed that this new American step achieves the equation of increasing missile production locally and enhances the ability of European allies to bolster their stockpile of this weapon.
If the two projects are implemented, they could provide some production capacity in Raytheon and Lockheed Martin's factories in the United States, allowing the two American defense giants to increase their local production.
Sources indicated that the two parties will sign a letter of intent during the NATO industry forum on the sidelines of the military alliance summit that will be held in Ankara later today (Tuesday).
U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized European allies for relying on the United States for their security matters, while continuing to pressure them to increase defense spending and purchase more American equipment. He has threatened on several occasions to withdraw Washington from the alliance.
This step comes amid growing concerns in Washington about the ability of American arms manufacturers to meet the increasing demand, after the war in Ukraine and the Iran conflict have depleted U.S. military stocks. Trump has encouraged joint production of American weapons with Europe.
