فيما انطلقت الجولة الخامسة من المحادثات بين لبنان وإسرائيل في وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية بواشنطن، أكّد نائب الرئيس الأمريكي جي دي فانس (الثلاثاء)، دعم الولايات المتحدة للبنان وجيشها لبسط سلطة الدولة.
وذكرت الرئاسة اللبنانية أن الرئيس العماد جوزيف عون تلقى اتصالاً هاتفياً من نائب الرئيس الأمريكي جي دي فانس ووزير الخارجية ماركو روبيو، بحث خلالها التطورات المتصلة بالوضع في لبنان ومرحلة ما بعد اجتماعات سويسرا.
وأكّد فانس وروبيو دعم الولايات المتحدة لمواقف الرئيس والحكومة اللبنانية في توجهاتهما لبسط سلطة الدولة الشرعية وتعزيز سيادتها الوطنية على كامل أراضيها بواسطة جيشها وقواها الأمنية وحدها وتمكينها من الالتزام بتعهداتها في هذا المجال. وشدد فانس وروبيو على متابعة الولايات المتحدة تنفيذ ما اتُفق عليه في اجتماعات سويسرا، ومنها تشكيل خلية من الولايات المتحدة ولبنان وإيران لتثبيت وقف إطلاق النار في لبنان ومراقبة تنفيذ الإجراءات المرتبطة بذلك.
ولفتا إلى أنه تجري حالياً دراسة الترتيبات المتعلقة بعمل الخلية وطريقة تشكيلها.
بدوره، أعرب الرئيس عون لنائب الرئيس الأمريكي ووزير الخارجية عن شكره لهما على الاهتمام الذي تبديه الولايات المتحدة حيال لبنان بهدف إنهاء الحرب فيه وتعزيز سلطة الدولة اللبنانية واستقلالية قرارها باعتبارها المسؤولة وحدها عن حفظ السيادة الوطنية وكرامة اللبنانيين وسلامتهم.
وانطلقت في واشنطن الجولة الخامسة من المفاوضات المباشرة، والتي ستستمر 3 أيام بين وفود سياسية وأمنية وعسكرية من البلدين، مع إصرار المسؤولين اللبنانيين على أن التفاوض هو السبيل الوحيد لإنهاء الحرب التي تدور رحاها منذ الثاني من مارس الماضي بين إسرائيل وحزب الله.
وجدد الرئيس اللبناني جوزيف عون في وقت سابق اليوم، التأكيد على أن الجولة الجديدة قد تكون حاسمة، معلناً تمسك لبنان برفض الاحتلال الإسرائيلي والوصايات الخارجية.
As the fifth round of talks between Lebanon and Israel commenced at the U.S. State Department in Washington, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance confirmed on Tuesday the United States' support for Lebanon and its army in asserting the authority of the state.
The Lebanese presidency stated that President General Joseph Aoun received a phone call from U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during which they discussed developments related to the situation in Lebanon and the post-Switzerland meetings phase.
Vance and Rubio reaffirmed the United States' support for the positions of the Lebanese president and government in their efforts to assert the legitimate authority of the state and enhance its national sovereignty over all its territory through its army and security forces alone, enabling it to fulfill its commitments in this regard. They emphasized that the United States would continue to implement what was agreed upon in the Switzerland meetings, including the formation of a cell comprising the United States, Lebanon, and Iran to establish a ceasefire in Lebanon and monitor the implementation of related measures.
They noted that arrangements concerning the operation of the cell and its formation are currently being studied.
For his part, President Aoun expressed his gratitude to the U.S. Vice President and Secretary of State for the attention the United States is showing towards Lebanon with the aim of ending the war there and strengthening the authority of the Lebanese state and its decision-making independence, as it is solely responsible for preserving national sovereignty and the dignity and safety of the Lebanese people.
The fifth round of direct negotiations began in Washington, which will last for three days between political, security, and military delegations from both countries, with Lebanese officials insisting that negotiation is the only way to end the war that has been ongoing since March 2 between Israel and Hezbollah.
Earlier today, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun reiterated that the new round could be decisive, announcing Lebanon's commitment to rejecting Israeli occupation and foreign mandates.
