The President of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi today (Thursday) renewed the state's rejection of any actions outside its exclusive powers as stipulated by the constitution and law, and the references of the transitional phase, foremost among them the declaration of the transfer of power and the Riyadh Agreement.

Al-Alimi confirmed during a phone call with the Governor of Hadhramaut, Salem Al-Khanbashi, the state's full support for the local authority leadership in Hadhramaut, enabling it to perform its duties in caring for public interests, and enhancing the presence of state institutions, ensuring the consolidation of security and stability, and protecting public tranquility in the governorate. The President of the Presidential Leadership Council listened to a report on the latest developments in Hadhramaut and the level of progress in efforts to normalize conditions in the governorate with support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia Behind Normalizing the Situation in Hadhramaut

Al-Alimi pointed out that the status of Hadhramaut in the national equation is considered a fundamental pillar in the recovery plan, national stability, and a model for coexistence and social peace, stressing the state's commitment to protecting its security and stability, safeguarding the interests of its citizens, and preserving its uniqueness and the unity of its social fabric.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council praised the ongoing brotherly efforts exerted by the Coalition to Support Legitimacy, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the UAE, to restore normalcy in the eastern governorates to their previous state, and their constant keenness to protect the existing consensus and avoid any repercussions that could harm the interests of the Yemeni people and exacerbate their humanitarian suffering.

Al-Alimi emphasized his previous directives that stress the necessity of documenting all human rights violations that accompanied the unilateral actions in Hadhramaut, opening a comprehensive investigation into them, assisting the affected citizens, ensuring accountability, and not allowing the perpetrators to escape punishment.

The Yemeni President highly valued the awareness and wisdom of the people of Hadhramaut, and their well-known positions in prioritizing the public interest, rallying around the local authority leadership, and thwarting the opportunity for groups and militias that threaten the security and stability of the governorate, affirming that Hadhramaut will remain a locomotive for the state, development, and the supremacy of the system and law.

Discussion of Hadhramaut Events with the United Nations

Meanwhile, the Governor of Hadhramaut, Salem Al-Khanbashi, reviewed today via video conferencing with the Senior Political Advisor at the Office of the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General to Yemen, Masaki Watanabe, the developments in the governorate and ways to enhance stability in the valley and desert areas, confirming that the optimal solution lies in the return of the forces affiliated with the Transitional Council to their previous positions to ensure that no clashes occur and to spare the governorate any conflict, filling the void with security forces from the people of the governorate, supported by the "National Shield" forces that will take on the tasks of protecting borders and outlets.

The governor stressed the rejection of any infringement on public and private properties and the necessity of normalizing conditions to serve the citizens.

The Governor of Hadhramaut praised the efforts of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its delegation to the governorate headed by Major General Dr. Mohammed Al-Qahtani, who leads mediation efforts to overcome the issues in the plateau and valley, clarifying the efforts of the international community and the United Nations to support the position calling for the withdrawal of current forces from the valley and unifying efforts to confront the Houthi coup.

Calls for UN Pressure

The governor called on the UN envoy's office to play a more effective role in supporting the stability of the governorate, urging political forces, foremost among them the Transitional Council, to respond to political solution efforts to spare Hadhramaut any conflicts that serve only the Houthis.

For his part, Masaki Watanabe confirmed the UN envoy's office's interest and close monitoring of what is happening in the governorates of Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra, indicating that the stability of Hadhramaut represents a cornerstone for the future political process in Yemen.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) revealed in a report today that the escalation in Hadhramaut has caused a new wave of displacement towards Marib Governorate, including thousands of civilians, amid international warnings of humanitarian organizations' inability to meet the increasing needs due to the depletion of available resources.

The UN office confirmed in its report that since the beginning of December, more than 5,418 people (about 774 families) have been displaced towards Marib Governorate, noting that families have spread across more than 24 displacement sites in Marib city and the valley district.
