أعلن رئيس الوزراء الإسباني بيدرو سانشيز، اليوم (الإثنين)، أن إسرائيل وروسيا يجب أن يُحظَرا من المنافسات الرياضية الدولية حتى «انتهاء الأعمال البربرية»، في إشارة إلى الحروب في أوكرانيا وغزة.
تصاعد التوتر
وجاءت تصريحات سانشيز في سياق تصعيد التوتر بين إسبانيا وإسرائيل، وسط احتجاجات واسعة ضد مشاركة فريق إسرائيلي في سباق «فويتا إسبانيا» للدراجات، مما أدى إلى إلغاء المرحلة الأخيرة من السباق (الأحد).
وقال سانشيز، الذي ينتمي إلى حزب العمال الاشتراكي الإسباني، إنه يدين الاحتجاجات العنيفة من قبل المتظاهرين المؤيدين لفلسطين (الأحد) في مدريد، والتي أدت إلى تعطيل سباق «لا فويتا» وإلغاء المرحلة النهائية وطقوس تتويج الفائزين.
وأعرب سانشيز عن الإعجاب بالشعب الإسباني الذي يتحرك من أجل قضايا عادلة مثل فلسطين، وفقًا لتصريحاته قبل بدء السباق.
ازدواجية رياضية
وأضاف أنه لا يمكن السماح بمعايير مزدوجة في الرياضة، مقارناً بين إقصاء روسيا من المنافسات الدولية بعد غزوها لأوكرانيا في 2022، ومطالبه بحظر إسرائيل بسبب عملياتها العسكرية في غزة، التي وصفها بـ«الإبادة الجماعية».
مظاهرات إسبانية
وتأتي تصريحات سانشيز بعد أن أدت احتجاجات أمس إلى إغلاق الطريق الرئيسي في وسط مدريد، حيث هبط المتظاهرون الحواجز وشغلوا الطريق في نقاط متعددة، بما في ذلك شارع غران فيا الذي كان من المقرر أن يمر منه المتسابقون عدة مرات.
وأسفرت الاشتباكات مع الشرطة عن إصابة 22 شرطياً، واعتقال شخصين، وفقاً للمتحدث باسم الشرطة الوطنية الإسبانية.
وتم نشر أكثر من 1500 شرطي لتأمين السباق، لكن المتظاهرين، الذين حملوا أعلام فلسطين ولافتات تندد بإسرائيل، ألقوا زجاجات بلاستيكية ومخاريط مرور، مما أجبر المنظمين على إعلان إلغاء المرحلة بعد 60 كيلومتراً من الوصول إلى دائرة السباق في مدريد.
احتجاجات إسرائيل
وكان السباق قد تعرض لتعطيل سابق خلال هذا العام بسبب احتجاجات مماثلة ضد مشاركة فريق «إسرائيل بريميير تيك»، وأدت الاحتجاجات في غاليسيا وبلد السارقوس إلى تقصير مراحل أخرى، وأعلن المتسابق الدنماركي يوناس فينغيغارد فائزًا عامًا بعد إلغاء المرحلة النهائية.
وفي تصريح سابق، قالت وزيرة الرياضة الإسبانية بيلار أليغريا إن الفرق الإسرائيلية يجب أن تُحظر من الرياضة كما حدث مع الفرق الروسية، مشيرة إلى معايير مزدوجة في التعامل مع النزاعات.
غضب إسرائيلي
ردًا على تصريحات سانشيز، وصف وزير الخارجية الإسرائيلي جيديون ساعار الحكومة الإسبانية بأنها «عار على إسبانيا»، متهمًا سانشيز بـ«التحريض على المتظاهرين».
وكتب ساعار على منصة إكس: «اليوم شجع المتظاهرين على الخروج إلى الشوارع، سمع العصابة المؤيدة لفلسطين رسائل التحريض – ودمرت سباق فويتا».
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced today (Monday) that Israel and Russia should be banned from international sports competitions until the "barbaric acts" cease, referring to the wars in Ukraine and Gaza.
Escalating Tensions
Sánchez's statements came amid escalating tensions between Spain and Israel, amid widespread protests against the participation of an Israeli team in the "Vuelta a España" cycling race, which led to the cancellation of the final stage of the race (Sunday).
Sánchez, who belongs to the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party, condemned the violent protests by pro-Palestinian demonstrators (Sunday) in Madrid, which disrupted the "La Vuelta" race and resulted in the cancellation of the final stage and the winner's crowning ceremony.
Sánchez expressed admiration for the Spanish people who mobilize for just causes like Palestine, according to his statements before the race began.
Sports Double Standards
He added that double standards in sports cannot be allowed, comparing the exclusion of Russia from international competitions following its invasion of Ukraine in 2022, to his demands for a ban on Israel due to its military operations in Gaza, which he described as "genocide."
Spanish Protests
Sánchez's statements come after yesterday's protests led to the closure of the main road in downtown Madrid, where demonstrators brought down barriers and occupied the road at multiple points, including Gran Vía street, which was scheduled to be used by the racers several times.
Clashes with police resulted in 22 officers being injured and two arrests, according to a spokesperson for the Spanish National Police.
More than 1,500 police officers were deployed to secure the race, but the demonstrators, who carried Palestinian flags and signs denouncing Israel, threw plastic bottles and traffic cones, forcing the organizers to announce the cancellation of the stage after 60 kilometers of reaching the race circuit in Madrid.
Israeli Protests
The race had previously been disrupted earlier this year due to similar protests against the participation of the "Israel Premier Tech" team, and protests in Galicia and the Basque Country led to the shortening of other stages, with Danish racer Jonas Vingegaard declared the overall winner after the final stage was canceled.
In a previous statement, Spanish Sports Minister Pilar Alegría said that Israeli teams should be banned from sports just as Russian teams were, pointing to double standards in dealing with conflicts.
Israeli Anger
In response to Sánchez's statements, Israeli Foreign Minister Gidion Saar described the Spanish government as a "shame on Spain," accusing Sánchez of "inciting the demonstrators."
Saar wrote on X platform: "Today, he encouraged the demonstrators to take to the streets, the pro-Palestinian gang heard the incitement messages – and destroyed the Vuelta race."
