رحّب وزير الخارجية الأمريكي ماركو روبيو، اليوم (الخميس)، بإعلان الترويكا تفعيل عملية إعادة فرض العقوبات على إيران، مؤكداً أن الترويكا الأوروبية قدّمت مثالاً واضحاً على عدم التزام طهران بتعهداتها النووية.
وقال روبيو: «إن استمرار إيران في عدم الامتثال الجوهري لالتزاماتها النووية يشكّل أساساً قوياً لتفعيل آلية سناب باك»، مضيفاً أنه سيعمل خلال الأسابيع القادمة مع الترويكا وبقية أعضاء مجلس الأمن الدولي على إتمام إعادة فرض العقوبات والقيود الدولية على إيران بنجاح.
وأشار إلى أن الولايات المتحدة تظل منفتحة على الانخراط المباشر مع إيران دعماً لحل سلمي ودائم للقضية النووية، معتبراً أن تفعيل آلية سناب باك لا يتعارض مع الاستعدادات الجادة للدبلوماسية، بل يعززها.
في السياق نفسه، أفاد دبلوماسيون بأن روسيا والصين وضعتا اليوم اللمسات الأخيرة على مشروع قرار لمجلس الأمن الدولي يمدد الاتفاق النووي الإيراني لعام 2015 لمدة ستة أشهر، ويحث جميع الأطراف على استئناف المفاوضات فوراً.
وقال نائب السفير الروسي لدى الأمم المتحدة ديميتري بوليانسكي: «لا ينبغي لمجلس الأمن أن يتخذ أي إجراء بشأن الخطوة التي اتخذتها مجموعة الدول الأوروبية الثلاث فرنسا وبريطانيا وألمانيا لتفعيل عملية مدتها 30 يوماً لإعادة فرض عقوبات الأمم المتحدة على إيران»، مؤكداً أنها لا تنطوي على أي تأثير قانوني.
من جانبه، قال وزير الخارجية الإيراني عباس عراقجي، في اتصال هاتفي مع نظرائه الفرنسي والبريطاني والألماني، إن طهران سترد على قرار الدول الأوروبية الثلاث بتفعيل الآلية التي تتيح إعادة فرض عقوبات الأمم المتحدة بشكل «مناسب»، واصفاً الخطوة بأنها «غير قانونية وغير مبررة» وتهدف إلى حماية مصالح تلك الدول الوطنية.
وأعرب عراقجي عن أمله في أن تعمد الدول الأوروبية الثلاث إلى تصحيح هذا القرار الخاطئ عبر فهم الحقائق القائمة خلال الأيام القادمة.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio welcomed today (Thursday) the Troika's announcement to activate the process of re-imposing sanctions on Iran, emphasizing that the European Troika has provided a clear example of Tehran's non-compliance with its nuclear commitments.
Rubio stated, "Iran's continued substantial non-compliance with its nuclear obligations forms a strong basis for activating the snapback mechanism," adding that he will work in the coming weeks with the Troika and other members of the UN Security Council to successfully complete the re-imposition of sanctions and international restrictions on Iran.
He noted that the United States remains open to direct engagement with Iran in support of a peaceful and lasting resolution to the nuclear issue, considering that activating the snapback mechanism does not contradict serious diplomatic preparations, but rather enhances them.
In the same context, diplomats reported that Russia and China finalized today a draft resolution for the UN Security Council that extends the 2015 Iranian nuclear agreement for six months and urges all parties to resume negotiations immediately.
Russian Deputy Ambassador to the UN Dmitry Polyansky said, "The Security Council should not take any action regarding the step taken by the three European countries—France, Britain, and Germany—to activate a 30-day process to re-impose UN sanctions on Iran," emphasizing that it does not carry any legal effect.
For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a phone call with his French, British, and German counterparts, stated that Tehran will respond to the decision of the three European countries to activate the mechanism that allows for the re-imposition of UN sanctions in a "suitable" manner, describing the step as "illegal and unjustified" and aimed at protecting the national interests of those countries.
Araghchi expressed hope that the three European countries would correct this erroneous decision by understanding the existing realities in the coming days.
