The Sudan Doctors Network announced that at least 31 civilians were killed and dozens injured in the heaviest shelling carried out by the Rapid Support Forces on the city of El Fasher and the Abu Shouk camp in North Darfur.
The network reported in a statement today (Sunday) that among the dead were 7 children and a woman, and 13 others were injured due to artillery shelling by the Rapid Support Forces on the Abu Shouk camp in North Darfur.
It warned of the seriousness of the humanitarian situation, confirming that it is suffering from a severe shortage of medicines, medical personnel, and food due to the siege by the Rapid Support Forces.
Since May 2024, the Rapid Support Forces have been besieging the city of El Fasher and the surrounding camps, intensifying their attacks on the city since the army regained control of Khartoum and other cities earlier this year.
The attacks by the Rapid Support Forces on the camps surrounding El Fasher, especially the Zamzam camp which housed hundreds of thousands of displaced people, have led to massive waves of displacement and emptied the camp of most of its residents.
The Director of Operations at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Edem Wosornu, expressed her deep concern over reports coming from the city of El Fasher in North Darfur, indicating that more than 60 people, mostly women and children, have died due to malnutrition within one week. She called for an urgent humanitarian ceasefire to allow food to reach those besieged inside the city.
The emergency room of the Abu Shouk camp in North Darfur revealed an increase in mortality rates among women, children, and the elderly due to chronic diseases and malnutrition in recent days.
The room indicated that scenes of severe emaciation have become common among children and women, confirming that the situation in El Fasher has surpassed the warning stage and entered a critical danger zone amid weak humanitarian response. At least 63 deaths have been recorded over the week due to "malnutrition" in the city of El Fasher in the Darfur region, which has been besieged by the Rapid Support Forces for more than a year.
The source stated that the number of those who died from malnutrition in the city of El Fasher between August 3 and 10 reached 63, most of whom were women and children.
