قالت ممثلة الاتحاد الأوروبي دوبرافكا سويسكا إن مؤتمر نيويورك حول حل الدولتين، يمثل «لحظة حاسمة ليس فقط للشرق الأوسط وإنما لنا جميعاً».
وأكدت عضو المفوضية الأوروبية مسؤولة المتوسط، في تصريحات، اليوم (الأحد)، أن السلام والازدهار في جوارنا المباشر يفيد أوروبا أيضاً، ويجب أن يكون هذا المؤتمر لترجمة المواقف إلى أفعال.
وأضافت أن الاتحاد الأوروبي لا يشارك فحسب، بل نحن نساهم في صياغة أجندة المنطقة، نحن لا ندعو للسلام فحسب، بل نستثمر فيه من خلال الحوار مع الشركاء، وتقديم المساعدات الإنسانية، ودعم جهود البناء وتعزيز قيام المؤسسات الضرورية لبناء دولة فلسطينية قابلة للحياة وديمقراطية وموحدة، كجزء من حل تفاوضي. وشددت على أن حل الدولتين يجب أن ينتقل من مبدأ إلى حقيقة ملموسة.
ومن المتوقع أن تؤكد دوبرافكا سويسكا خلال مشاركتها في المؤتمر الذي سيُعقد في مقر الأمم المتحدة في نيويورك اعتباراً من يوم غد (الإثنين)، التزام الاتحاد الأوروبي بحل الدولتين باعتباره المسار الوحيد لتحقيق سلام عادل ودائم ومستدام.
وستسلط الضوء على الجهود المستمرة التي يبذلها الاتحاد الأوروبي للتخفيف من حدة الأوضاع الإنسانية، إضافة إلى دعمه القوي لسلطة فلسطينية مُصلحة وفاعلة، باعتبارها الجهة الشرعية الحاكمة للدولة الفلسطينية المستقبلية.
وتشارك المفوضية في مناقشات حول «اليوم التالي»، مع التركيز على الجهود الدولية المتعلقة بإنعاش قطاع غزة وإعادة إعماره.
وتستضيف الأمم المتحدة في نيويورك، على مدى يومي الإثنين والثلاثاء، أعمال «المؤتمر الدولي لتسوية قضية فلسطين بالوسائل السلمية وتنفيذ حل الدولتين»، برئاسة وزيري الخارجية السعودي الأمير فيصل بن فرحان، والفرنسي جان نويل بارو، في سياق المبادرة التي بدأتها المملكة العربية السعودية وفرنسا منذ أشهر.
وسيكون المؤتمر مقدمة مهمة لعقد مؤتمر دولي في باريس، أو في نيويورك على هامش الاجتماعات رفيعة المستوى للدورة السنوية الـ80 للجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة في النصف الثاني من سبتمبر القادم، في ظل جهود متواصلة لنيل دولة فلسطين اعترافاً من دول أوروبية رئيسية أبرزها فرنسا، ضمن خطة تشمل خطوات أخرى لإحلال السلام بين الدول العربية وإسرائيل.
The European Union representative Dubravka Suica stated that the New York conference on the two-state solution represents "a critical moment not only for the Middle East but for all of us."
She emphasized that the European Commission's member responsible for the Mediterranean, in statements today (Sunday), noted that peace and prosperity in our immediate neighborhood also benefit Europe, and this conference should translate positions into actions.
She added that the European Union is not only participating but is also contributing to shaping the region's agenda; we are not just calling for peace but investing in it through dialogue with partners, providing humanitarian aid, and supporting efforts to build and strengthen the necessary institutions for establishing a viable, democratic, and unified Palestinian state as part of a negotiated solution. She stressed that the two-state solution must move from principle to a tangible reality.
Dubravka Suica is expected to reaffirm the EU's commitment to the two-state solution as the only path to achieving a fair, lasting, and sustainable peace during her participation in the conference, which will be held at the United Nations headquarters in New York starting tomorrow (Monday).
She will highlight the ongoing efforts by the European Union to alleviate the humanitarian situation, in addition to its strong support for a reformed and effective Palestinian Authority, as the legitimate governing body of the future Palestinian state.
The Commission is participating in discussions about "the day after," focusing on international efforts related to revitalizing and rebuilding the Gaza Strip.
The United Nations is hosting, over the course of Monday and Tuesday, the "International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Palestinian Issue and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution," chaired by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, as part of the initiative launched by Saudi Arabia and France months ago.
The conference will serve as an important precursor to holding an international conference in Paris or in New York on the sidelines of the high-level meetings of the 80th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly in the second half of September, amid ongoing efforts to gain recognition for the State of Palestine from key European countries, most notably France, as part of a plan that includes other steps to achieve peace between Arab states and Israel.
