في تصاعد للتوتر واندلاع اشتباكات أسفرت عن مقتل 11 مدنياً على الأقل، وتبادلاً للاتهامات بين الدولتين الجارتين، قصفت طائرة مقاتلة تايلندية من طراز F-16 اليوم (الخميس) أهدافاً في كمبوديا.
وتبادلت الدولتان الاتهامات ببدء الاشتباكات اليوم، وأغلقت تايلند حدودها مع كمبوديا، فيما قال نائب المتحدث باسم الجيش التايلندي ريشا سوكسوانون للصحفيين: إن إحدى طائرات F-16 الست، التي جهزتها تايلند لنشرها على طول الحدود المتنازع عليها، أطلقت النار على كمبوديا ودمرت هدفاً عسكرياً.
وأضاف: «استخدمنا القوة الجوية ضد أهداف عسكرية وفقاً لما هو مخطط»، مؤكداً سقوط 11 مدنياً تايلندياً في الاشتباكات، وإصابة 14 آخرين.
وكانت وزارة الخارجية التايلندية قالت في وقت سابق إن القوات الكمبودية أطلقت «مدفعية ثقيلة» على قاعدة عسكرية تايلندية صباح اليوم، واستهدفت أيضاً مناطق مدنية، بما في ذلك مستشفى، ما أدى إلى سقوط ضحايا مدنيين.
وأشارت إلى أن الحكومة الملكية التايلندية مستعدة لتكثيف إجراءات الدفاع عن النفس إذا استمرت كمبوديا في هجومها المسلح وانتهاكاتها لسيادة تايلند.
بالمقابل، قالت وزارة الدفاع الكمبودية إن طائرات أسقطت قنبلتين على طريق، منددة بشدة بما وصفته بـ«العدوان العسكري المتهور والوحشي لمملكة تايلند على سيادة كمبوديا وسلامة أراضيها».
واندلعت المناوشات بعد أن استدعت تايلند سفيرها لدى كمبوديا في وقت متأخر أمس وأعلنت أنها ستطرد مبعوث كمبوديا في بانكوك، وذلك بعد أن فقد جندي تايلندي آخر أحد أطرافه في غضون أسبوع، نتيجة انفجار لغم أرضي زعمت بانكوك أنه زرع أخيراً في المنطقة المتنازع عليها.
وطلب رئيس الوزراء الكمبودي هون مانيت من مجلس الأمن الدولي عقد اجتماع عاجل بشأن اشتباكات الخميس، مشيراً إلى أن «الاعتداءات التايلندية الخطيرة تهدد السلام والاستقرار في المنطقة بشكل خطير، وأطلب منكم بإلحاح عقد اجتماع عاجل لمجلس الأمن لوقف عدوان تايلند».
In a rise of tensions and the outbreak of clashes that resulted in the death of at least 11 civilians, and an exchange of accusations between the two neighboring countries, a Thai F-16 fighter jet today (Thursday) bombed targets in Cambodia.
The two countries exchanged accusations of starting the clashes today, and Thailand closed its border with Cambodia, while Thai army spokesman Risha Sukswanon told reporters that one of the six F-16s that Thailand had prepared for deployment along the disputed border fired on Cambodia and destroyed a military target.
He added, "We used air power against military targets as planned," confirming the death of 11 Thai civilians in the clashes and the injury of 14 others.
The Thai Foreign Ministry had earlier stated that Cambodian forces fired "heavy artillery" at a Thai military base this morning, also targeting civilian areas, including a hospital, resulting in civilian casualties.
It noted that the Royal Thai Government is prepared to intensify self-defense measures if Cambodia continues its armed attack and violations of Thailand's sovereignty.
In contrast, the Cambodian Defense Ministry stated that aircraft dropped two bombs on a road, strongly condemning what it described as "the reckless and brutal military aggression of the Kingdom of Thailand against the sovereignty of Cambodia and its territorial integrity."
The skirmishes erupted after Thailand summoned its ambassador to Cambodia late yesterday and announced it would expel the Cambodian envoy in Bangkok, following the loss of another Thai soldier's limb within a week due to a landmine explosion that Bangkok claimed was recently planted in the disputed area.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet requested an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council regarding Thursday's clashes, indicating that "the serious Thai aggressions pose a grave threat to peace and stability in the region, and I urgently request you to hold an emergency meeting of the Security Council to stop Thailand's aggression."
