Former U.S. President Donald Trump launched an attack on former supporters, describing them as "weak" for believing what he called a "Democratic hoax" regarding Jeffrey Epstein, a former financier of his campaigns who was convicted of sexual exploitation and committed suicide in 2019.
Trump stated that he no longer wished to support them politically, amid rising pressure from Republicans in Congress on the Justice Department to release more documents related to the Epstein case.
In a post on the "Truth Social" platform, Trump wrote on Wednesday: "The new hoax being promoted by the Democrats will now be called the Jeffrey Epstein hoax, and my former supporters have been completely fooled by it, falling for it without thinking."
He considered that these individuals have not learned their lesson and may never do so, even after being deceived by the crazy left for 8 years.
Trump described the issue as a distraction from his achievements, saying: "I accomplished in 6 months what no president in the history of our country has achieved, but all these people want to talk about, driven by the fake media and the achievement-bankrupt Democrats, is the Epstein hoax... Let these weaklings continue to serve the Democrats, I do not want to support them anymore."
The dispute between Trump and his supporters revolves around his administration's handling of documents related to Epstein, who was found dead in his New York cell in August 2019, weeks after being arrested on charges of sex trafficking.
The U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation denied, in a memo published last week, the existence of evidence that Epstein kept a "client list," or that he was blackmailing powerful figures. They rejected claims that Epstein was murdered, affirming that he died by suicide in a New York jail in 2019, and that they would not disclose any additional information related to the case.
Pressure has focused on Attorney General Pam Bondi, who stated earlier this year that she had a "list of Epstein's clients" on her desk, but her department later said in an official memo that such a list does not exist. Last week, Bondi clarified that she was referring to other documents at that time.
Trump expressed his strong support for Bondi, saying she handled the matter well, but he also appeared open to allowing the release of more information if the Attorney General deemed it appropriate, although he indicated that any additional details might lack credibility.
