كشفت شركة أكوويذر المتخصصة في خدمات التنبؤ بالطقس اليوم (الثلاثاء)، حجم الخسائر التي تكبدتها ولاية تكساس الأمريكية جراء الفيضانات المفاجئة المميتة، موضحة أن الفيضانات تستببت في مصرع أكثر من 104 أشخاص حتى الآن وخسائر اقتصادية تراوح بين 18 و22 مليار دولار.
وذكرت الشركة أن التقديرات الأولية مرتبطة بالأضرار التي لحقت بالمنازل والشركات والمخيمات والمرافق الترفيهية، بالإضافة إلى اضطرابات التجارة والخدمات اللوجستية لسلسلة التوريد، والخسائر المالية الناجمة عن انقطاع التيار الكهربائي لفترات طويلة وإغلاق الطرق والتأخيرات الكبيرة في السفر، والخسائر السياحية، والأضرار التي لحقت بالبنية التحتية، بالإضافة إلى تكاليف الرعاية الصحية البدنية والنفسية طويلة الأجل للناجين والأسر التي فقدت أحباءها، مبينة أنه ورغم التكلفة الكبيرة للأضرار الناجمة عن المياه، إلا أن سياسات التأمين لا تغطي أصحاب المنازل عادة، وبالتالي يكون العديد من أصحاب المنازل غير مشمولين في الغالب بتغطية تأمينية كافية ضد أضرار السيول.
ولفت الشركة إلى أن 4% فقط من ملاك المنازل في الولايات المتحدة مشمولون بالتأمين ضد السيول، من خلال البرنامج الوطني للتأمين ضد أخطار السيول التابع للوكالة الاتحادية لإدارة الطوارئ، وبحسب كبير خبراء الأرصاد في الشركة جوناثان بورتر فإن الأضرار، والآثار على السياحة المستقبلية وتكلفة جهود البحث والإنقاذ وعمليات التنظيف الشاملة اللازمة، بالإضافة إلى مطالبات التأمين بعد هذا الفيضان المفاجئ الكارثي، سيكون لها آثار اقتصادية طويلة الأمد على منطقة هيل كانتري في تكساس.
واأشار أكيو ويذر إلى أن الأمطار الغزيرة المستمرة غمرت هيل كانتري في تكساس بما يصل إلى 12 بوصة في بعض المناطق، ما تسبب في ارتفاع منسوب نهر جوادالوبي نحو 30 قدماً في غضون ساعة.

وكانت السكرتيرة الصحفية في البيت الأبيض كارولين ليفيت قد قالت إن الرئيس دونالد ترمب سيزور موقع الفيضانات المدمرة في وقت لاحق من هذا الأسبوع، متوقعة أن تجرى الزيارة على الأرجح (الجمعة).
واعتبرت كارولين ليفيت ما حدث في تاكساس كارثة وطنية لا تتكرر إلا مرة واحدة كل جيل، مطالبة جميع سكان المنطقة بتوخي الحذر والاستماع إلى جميع التحذيرات والاستجابة وفقاً لذلك.
AccuWeather, the company specializing in weather forecasting services, revealed today (Tuesday) the extent of the losses incurred by the state of Texas due to the deadly flash floods, stating that the floods have resulted in the deaths of more than 104 people so far and economic losses ranging between $18 and $22 billion.
The company noted that the initial estimates are related to the damage inflicted on homes, businesses, camps, and recreational facilities, in addition to disruptions in trade and logistics services in the supply chain, financial losses resulting from prolonged power outages, road closures, significant travel delays, tourism losses, infrastructure damage, as well as the long-term physical and mental healthcare costs for survivors and families who lost loved ones. It indicated that despite the significant cost of water-related damages, insurance policies typically do not cover homeowners, and thus many homeowners are often not adequately covered against flood damage.
AccuWeather pointed out that only 4% of homeowners in the United States are covered by flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program managed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. According to the company's chief meteorologist, Jonathan Porter, the damages, the effects on future tourism, the cost of search and rescue efforts, and the extensive cleanup operations required, along with insurance claims following this catastrophic flash flood, will have long-term economic impacts on the Hill Country region of Texas.
AccuWeather also noted that the continuous heavy rains have inundated the Hill Country in Texas with up to 12 inches in some areas, causing the Guadalupe River to rise nearly 30 feet within an hour.

Caroline Levitt described what happened in Texas as a national disaster that occurs only once in a generation, urging all residents of the area to exercise caution, heed all warnings, and respond accordingly.
