The Iranian President, Masoud Bezhakian, announced today (Sunday) the readiness of his country for full cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council by opening a new chapter in relations with neighbors in the Gulf region.
The Iranian news agency Mehr reported Bezhakian as saying that the policy of neighborhood and the development of relations with the countries of the region constitute a fundamental strategy for Iran, and that his government shows special interest in advancing this policy.
The Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, had confirmed Tehran's commitment to the policy of good neighborliness and the enhancement of comprehensive relations with all neighbors, especially the Gulf states, assuring his Emirati counterpart, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in a phone call (Tuesday), that the relations between Iran and the Gulf states are friendly.
The news agency "Tasnim" quoted Araghchi as saying that the illegal attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran pose an unprecedented threat to peace and stability in the region, adding: rapprochement and cooperation among the countries of the region are essential to enhance security and stability.
For his part, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ismail Baqaei, confirmed that the missile strikes launched by his country against the "Al-Udeid" base were in implementation of the legitimate right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, in response to the American military aggression, pointing out that Iran is committed to the principle of good neighborliness and not escalating tensions with neighboring countries in the region.
He noted that Tehran had launched about 14 missiles towards the largest American airbase in the Middle East, as well as drones towards American bases in Iraq, in response to the U.S. bombing on June 23 of its nuclear facilities "Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan."
