The High Security Committee in Yemen revealed today (Saturday) the dismantling of a military security campaign in Taiz Governorate, targeting one of the most dangerous terrorist cells linked to the Houthis and the Al-Qaeda and ISIS organizations, involved in carrying out sabotage operations and assassinations in several governorates, according to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba).
The committee praised during a meeting chaired by the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, in the presence of Prime Minister Salem Saleh Bin Brek, the ongoing intelligence monitoring and follow-up efforts that led to the uncovering of a terrorist network managed by the former commander of the Transport Brigade, Amjad Khaled, who has been proven to have direct links with Houthi leaders, including the architects of terrorist and sabotage operations in the liberated governorates, Muhammad Abdul Karim Al-Ghamari and Abdul Qader Al-Shami, and the coordination of services between the Houthis and terrorist organizations and their cross-border schemes.
The committee indicated that the confessions of the detained suspects confirmed the involvement of this network in committing a number of heinous terrorist crimes, including the assassination of the World Food Program director in the city of Taiz, Moyed Hamidi, an act through which the Houthis aimed to undermine the government's efforts to enhance the confidence of international organizations and the measures taken to secure their humanitarian activities in the liberated governorates. It noted that several individuals involved in the assassination of the World Food Program employee were arrested, including the main perpetrators of the assassination, and dozens of others involved in various assassinations and bombings.
The committee reported that investigations proved the involvement of terrorist cells in the bombing of the convoy of the Governor of Aden, Ahmed Hamid Lamlas, in October 2021, which resulted in the death of several of his companions, in addition to assassination operations, kidnappings, and multiple enforced disappearances targeting investigators, unit leaders, religious and community figures, and attempts to assassinate several military and security leaders in the governorates of Aden, Lahij, Taiz, and Al-Bayda. It confirmed that the campaign uncovered laboratories for making explosives, preparing booby-trapped vehicles, and seizing explosive devices and various mines inside residential homes in the hideout of the terrorist gang in Al-Shamaytin District, as well as using visual documentation methods for assassination operations and eliminations, communicating with the Houthi enemy, and providing coordinates and sensitive security information, as part of a broad scheme to bring down cities and governorates from within.
The High Security Committee commended the role of the Governor of Taiz, the commander of the Al-Baha Axis, the commander of the Fourth Mountain Infantry Brigade, the director of Al-Shamaytin District, and all relevant agencies that participated in successfully executing the joint security and military campaign to the fullest extent, as well as the awareness of citizens who played an important role in supporting the campaign.
The High Security Committee warned of the dangers of dealing with, concealing, or being lenient towards terrorist elements under any pretext, emphasizing the need to strengthen national alignment and protect the internal front with the highest levels of vigilance, readiness, and mobilization to confront the Houthi scheme aimed at drowning the country in more destruction and chaos.
The committee affirmed the state's readiness to deter terrorist threats, protect public tranquility and citizens' interests, pursue elements fleeing from justice, and put an end to the chaos of the Houthi group and its crimes committed against Yemenis, and to dismantle its racist project, vowing to pursue and apprehend wanted individuals, and to communicate with brotherly and friendly countries and Interpol to retrieve them and prosecute them domestically to receive their deterrent punishment.
The committee directed to build on the results of those reports and to work on more stringent measures in dealing with dormant and suspicious cells in various governorates.
It approved support for the General Administration for Drug Control, enhancing the role of enlightening, cultural, media, and guidance platforms to protect generations from misguided terrorist ideologies, revealing the plans of the Houthis and the terrorist organizations cooperating with them to harm the interests of the Yemeni people, erode its Arab identity, and threaten its national security.
The meeting was attended by the Director of the Office of the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh.
The meeting included the Minister of Defense, Head of the High Security Committee, Lieutenant General Mohsen Al-Daeri, the Minister of Interior, Major General Ibrahim Haidan, the Minister of State and Governor of Aden, Ahmed Lamlas, the Governor of Taiz, Nabil Shamsan, members of the High Security Committee, the Head of Military Intelligence and War Reconnaissance, Major General Ahmed Al-Yafie, the Head of the Counter-Terrorism Unit, Major General Shalal Ali Shaya, the Deputy Head of the National Security Agency, Major General Mohammed Aida, the Undersecretary of the National Security Agency, Major General Nour Al-Din Al-Yami, and the Rapporteur of the High Security Committee, Major General Abdul Hakim Shaif.
