The website "Axios" revealed the behind-the-scenes details of reaching a ceasefire between Iran and Israel on the twelfth day of the war between the two countries, which came into effect at seven o'clock this morning (Tuesday).
In a report, it stated that President Donald Trump's efforts to end the war began in earnest on (Sunday) just hours after the U.S. targeted three Iranian nuclear facilities.
It quoted a White House official saying that Trump instructed his envoy to the Middle East, Steve Wittekov, to inform the Iranians of his desire to negotiate an agreement to end the war. However, the Iranians, for their part, refused to participate, stating that "diplomacy would only be possible after their revenge by striking American targets," according to an informed source.
According to "Axios," before launching its missile attack on the Al-Udeid airbase in Qatar on Monday evening, Iran "sent messages to the Trump administration, via Doha, specifying the timing and nature of the targets it intended to strike," according to a White House official, which Tehran did not confirm or deny, nor did Qatar confirm the information provided by the American website.
The site added, "Immediately after the strike, the Iranians sent another secret message informing the White House that they would not launch any further attacks on American targets." Based on that, the White House responded again through the Qataris, stating that the United States would not retaliate against the Iranian attack, affirming its readiness to resume negotiations with Tehran.
A White House official revealed that Trump called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after the Al-Udeid attack and told him that "he wants to end the war," to which Netanyahu agreed, stating that Israel would not carry out any further strikes as long as Iran stopped launching missiles, according to the same source.
After agreeing on all the terms of the agreement, which have not yet been announced, Trump declared a ceasefire in his post on his platform "Truth Social."
The Qatari news agency announced today (Tuesday) that Trump called the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, following the Iranian attack on the Al-Udeid base.
It reported that Trump confirmed during the call his country's solidarity and support for Qatar and its strong condemnation of the Iranian attack, considering it "a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the State of Qatar and its airspace, as well as international law and the United Nations Charter." Trump emphasized his firm rejection of any "aggression that threatens the security and safety of the State of Qatar and undermines the security and stability of the region." He called on the Emir of Qatar to "exercise restraint and resort to diplomatic solutions."
For his part, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani expressed his gratitude to the American president for his country's supportive and solidarity positions with the State of Qatar and its people. He confirmed the readiness and vigilance of the Qatari armed forces and the precautionary measures that have been taken, which led to no fatalities or injuries.
