تعهّد الرئيس الكوري الجنوبي الجديد لي جاي-ميونغ، الأربعاء، باستئناف «الحوار» مع بيونغ يانغ وتحسين العلاقات مع جارته النووية.
وقال لي في خطاب تنصيبه: «مهما كان الثمن، فالسلام أفضل من الحرب»، متعهدًا بـ«ردع الاستفزازات النووية والعسكرية من كوريا الشمالية وفي الوقت نفسه مع فتح قنوات اتصال».
وأوضح ميونغ أن حكومته ستتعامل مع أي اعتداءات محتملة من كوريا الشمالية عبر «ردع قوي» يستند إلى التحالف العسكري المتين بين كوريا الجنوبية والولايات المتحدة، لكنه أكد في الوقت ذاته أنه سيبقي باب الحوار مفتوحًا مع كوريا الشمالية؛ بهدف ترسيخ السلام في شبه الجزيرة الكورية.
وأضاف الرئيس الجديد أنه سيتبنى دبلوماسية واقعية، ويعزز التعاون الثلاثي بين سول وواشنطن وطوكيو، انطلاقًا من التحالف الكوري الجنوبي-الأمريكي.
The new South Korean president, Lee Jae-myung, pledged on Wednesday to resume "dialogue" with Pyongyang and improve relations with its nuclear neighbor.
In his inauguration speech, Lee stated: "At any cost, peace is better than war," committing to "deter nuclear and military provocations from North Korea while simultaneously opening channels of communication."
Myung clarified that his government would address any potential aggression from North Korea through "strong deterrence" based on the solid military alliance between South Korea and the United States, but he also emphasized that he would keep the door open for dialogue with North Korea to solidify peace on the Korean Peninsula.
The new president added that he would adopt a realistic diplomacy and enhance trilateral cooperation between Seoul, Washington, and Tokyo, based on the South Korea-U.S. alliance.
